I told people AMD would get comfy and pull an Intel, but they didn't listen. AMD is apparently a godsend to them, not just another company who wants to maximize profits and doesn't give a rat's ass about your existence.
Are you saying that AMD don't have a halo of virtue over their head? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

Very good points, especially the bold bit.

Stock vs Stock - yeah, but overclocked I doubt it :)

12900k can be used at 5.4-5.5 for 24/7 with DDR5@6400...

Honestly, i think this is how both companies should work

Announce a new platform with all its bells and whistles - and then launch a refresh as the one last hurrah for the old platform.

They get two product lines to sell and announce to shareholders, while users wanting an upgrade are happy as well as users wanting an entirely new system

That's pretty pointless.

6-12 months ago was exactly that. A past. You should not make purchasing decisions based on past availability and prices.

Yep agree with you. It's like saying the house was 50k cheaper 6 months ago. This house doesn't help me now, lol.

Some people just want to complain about anything.

AMD doesn't release anything = complaint
AMD releases new CPU= complaint

These new chips might not even be based on the Zen 3 architecture, considering AMD put them in a series of their own,
Hate to speculate here, but if those are not Zen3, maybe they are targeted as yet another entry level offering.

They might very well be the rumoured Zen 2 based Renoir X, if they are part of Ryzen 4000. I wonder just how cheap they'll have to be in order to compete with the low end Alder Lake parts.
IMO if these are zen 2 then they are DOA, except maybe for the 5600

Update Mar 8th: According to a post on Facebook by a computer shop called TechMovers in the Phillipines, we can except an additional two SKUs to what leaked this weekend. No actual specs were provided, but in addition to the Ryzen 5000-series chips mentioned originally, it looks like AMD is planning on adding a pair of 4000-series models as well. The two chips will be the Ryzen 5 4500 and the Ryzen 3 4100. These new chips might not even be based on the Zen 3 architecture, considering AMD put them in a series of their own, but as these new chips are expected to arrive later this month, the wait won't be too long until we find out what AMD has in store
Hm, that's interesting. Repurposing unused, defective iGPU Renoir stock for the low end? Or just copying the "we don't want to use low end names" tack adopted by Nvidia with the RTX 2050 mobile gpu? Either way, if they're cheap I like it (though less confusing naming is always better). The 4650G in my HTPC certainly performs well enough.

I wondered where that 5700x was... there it is.

Competition is good.
too late... 5700X had to be released last summer. Now who want a CPU slower than a 5800X (which already is slower than Intel counterpart) ?
In gaming, 5700X will be almost identical to 5600X.
In productivity the situation will be a little bit better, but still no match for Intel.

AMD did quite a lot of strategic mistakes in 2021, not capitalizing the tech advantage, being too greedy.

How is that a problem though? We get cheaper and better product in the end anyways, right?
better products ? A toned down 5800X (the "new 5700X") and a 6C/6T CPU in 2022 (the "new 5500") ?
I can't see anything better here...

There is a flaw in the OP, you can already find the new AL cheaper then the original price. Even in my country, the land of taxes.
exactly.
Intel prices already started to drop, while AMD kept inflated prices on Zen 3 products for too long. Now AMD CPU are an interesting option for customers already on an AM4 platform. But for a new PC is quite hard to suggest an AMD solution (with 5600G/5700G being an exception for people looking for a decent iGPU).

I expect faster CPUs (refresh), not slower ones.
Price cut for current 5000 series, the new price for refresh/3D/something on current prices.

That would be excellent, but 5700G3D would be Vega (as the 5700G is), so that'd be a 6700G3D at best. I'm doubtful we'll see that until we see chiplet APUs, which isn't likely before something more efficient than their current substrate interconnect tech is widely available and affordable. 7000 maybe?

Indeed

One can always hope. It's too bad the 5700G didn't have 32MB cache.

Update, AMD is rumoured to release even more CPUs for AM4, including two more Cezanne (5700 and 5100) parts (with disabled graphics, I guess), and an additional Renoir X (4700) part.
This makes for at least 10 new AMD processors launching in April.

Yay, more AGESA updates for me. That's all I care about as I'm already on a 5900X.

Alder Lake scared them badly, lol
