AMD "Sienna Cichlid" Could be "Big Navi"

Linux kernel patches reference an AMD "Sienna Cichlid" GPU, which Phoronix believes could be the fabled "Big Navi" GPU. We know this is a GPU and not a headless CDNA scalar processor as the patches include code for VCN 3.0 video encoding capabilities (RDNA2's media engine), and DCN3 (RDNA2's display engine), which constitute bulk that AMD could get rid of on CDNA chips. The unusual internal codename could reference AMD's next generation RDNA2 architecture based flagship GPU, armed with 80 compute units (5,120 stream processors), Radeon Intersection Engines (accelerate real-time ray-tracing). The codename comes across as unusual, but AMD does tend to use wacky internal codenames to detect sources of leaks.

Rumours have something by AMD in September, and myself I would be happily surprised if they release Big Navi then. But I doubt it and I think November-December is more likely.

go to sleep then. cause rx 5700 hits around $300 on a regular basis, flashes to XT like performance, and trades blows with 1080 ti $700 at launch. most driver issues have been fixed so far. so you go yawn homie.

I really hope AMD can pull this RDNA2 off and it will be "sick-lid" great. From what I see with my 5600XT I'm impressed. It would have been great if the RDNA2 came a bit faster than anticipated. It's been a while and it's time, AMD showed what they can do with graphics in the high-end department.

What did they show us? I'm genuinely curious here... It was always too late, shaky at launch, bumpy in terms of supply and AIB availability, and trailing the newest technology by at least a full gen. Even now with the next Navi release this is no different, right?

To each his own but I believe a 'seeing is believing' stance should apply here.

there are a few games the 5700 xt beats 1080 ti by 10% as well, not many but that isn't my point, especially with the consoles using Navi next gen, it will favor the incoming console ports somewhat. and yeah 3 years and $400 cheaper... seems decent really imo. if Nvidia had no competition at all we would be at $899 for a rtx 2080 non-ti non-SUPER right now.

I'm really not seeing what you're seeing tbh. What I am seeing is that Nvidia had its DXR pipeline up and running a full gen before AMD who is now testing the waters with its first GPU. Zero practical experience going into a new console gen. By the time the games are truly optimized for AMD's implementation, you'll be looking at a PS6. I'm also seeing yet another history repeats: big promises for AMD's next GPU as if its Jesus' second coming. Do we never learn?

I got it wrong bro. Sorry for that. Still sleeping AMD showed in the mid range, it is time to move for high-end and see if AMD can pull this off. Thanks for pointing that one out.

RDNA2 is just on time (if september is correct). Probably for the first time since Hawaii.
The issue is Navi 10 was late. Vega 20 was late. Vega 64/56 was late. It just kept adding on.
Which ever company doesn't release next gen products for CP2077 launch is loosing a huge chunk of the market. Nvidia can take the hit, AMD can't.

Agreed 100%, I really think AMD will make it's highest end GPU lineup in time before CP2077, Ampere is already promised to. AMD knows they will lose a lot of market share if they don't come to bat for that.

Folding forces me to run on stock settings. OCing the GPU tends to produce invalid results. And every time I upgraded the drivers I had to reapply the OC settings, so I stopped bothering with it.

That aside, most AIB cards are factory OCed, aren't they? Even if it's just a 1% increase over reference clocks.…

Yeah, I never really tinkered with my 2080 Super and I used to undervolt the RX 5700 XT when I was still on the mainline Adrenalin driver, but on Pro I leave it stock.
