With its latest generation of client processors just a stone's throw away (into the mist, since there's still uncertainity surrounding the actual launch dates), AMD is preparing to retire its current front-line client processors, the six-core Phenom II X6. A company slide talking about "desktop processor longetivity" shows all current Phenom II X6 models, including 1100T Black Edition, 1090T Black Edition, 1075T, and 1065T, are scheduled for "end of life" (EOL) in Q4 2011, at the very latest by December. When a product reaches EOL, the company stops taking orders from distributors for it, clears outstanding orders, and stops its production. The company will continue to honor any warranty claims in accordance with its warranty terms and conditions.

Let's hope that replacement shows up soon... I'm waiting for ya Bulldozer!

I figured this would happen. I wonder if they will do a final price drop first.

first let me say Damn_Smooth the AMD girls are HOT!

I hope AMD releases BD soon and it proves to be worth the wait.

This is good news to me, prices should drop big time.

Didn't even hear about the 1045T and the 1065T until this moment.

Did they already do this for the Quads? Sad to see these 6's end, I love my 1055T.

wow AMD is ready to switch into newer one?
thats interesting and it just 6 months from now

Must be confident enough about the Bulldozers to go ahead and discontinue these. Although they could have served a purpose for less performing lines. Likely get some budget sales pretty well. Unless they've got that ready too. Seems like its an all out move to bury anything older than AM3+.

I better act fast and buy one.

Or you can ignore them and get something better :p The x6 is no good for gamers, its only good for people who want a cheap workstation.

How am I supposed to build a PC with a Sabertooth990FX without a CPU?
While bulldozer doesn't come out, I figured a 1090T would do just fine...
Besides, even for games, it isn't that bad...

You could always use your E7400 until Bulldozer launches! The board you want will be cheaper by then, too.

I agree, I was thinking of building it by August anyway. If bulldozer isn't out by that time, I will still consider getting a PIIx6.

I'll probably stick with my 1055T considering the majority of games being not very hardware intensive anyways.

all this time I have been gaming with a pIIx4 pIIx6 cpu's and getting good frame rates with dirt2/cod etc.

wow I wish I had known that 60plus fps was just so horrific.

I think Fourstaff meant no good value for money, rather than no good at all.

The Phenom x4s have been good value gamers CPUs at times, but there have always been cheaper options than the x6 capable of providing superior gaming performance (not least the higher clocked Phenom x4s!).

buy whatever is in your budget, many folks have multiuse machines. Making such claims is silly. even a p9550 phenom one at 2.2ghz gives similar gaming performance to a intel chip most of the time.

this is a bunch of hogwash.

what a red herring

It going to be a LONG time before the 1090T is outdated.

I've alraedy retired my X6 for a sandy bridge chip. now if only I could sell the bastard.

I agree - personally I don't spec my machine for framerates alone. The Phenom x6s do appear particularly bad deals for anyone who isn't going to make full use of 6 cores, though. You're also right to say that older CPUs are fine in today's games (I presume that's what you mean, rather than literally that a Phenom 1 is as fast as a current Intel quad in games). That doesn't stop one chip from being better than another, though, or one chip from being worse value than another.

I'm not sure what you're getting at by calling it a red herring, though, or by having such an abrasive tone.

Yup, CPUs can last a long time. Any good PC built in 2007 will still be ok for most gamers today.

I just get tired of people saying stupid shit. sorry for the abrasive tone. I have need for a 6 core for some heavy dsp stuff. While its not a great bargin for a gamer it performs fine in gaming uses.
