AMP Ships Ultra-Slim Key Shaped USB Drive

Active Media Products (AMP), manufacturer of SSDs and innovative USB drives, today began shipping a new key-shaped USB 2.0 drive in 4GB and 8GB capacities that measures a mere 3mm thick.

This is an excellent drive for carrying data with you anywhere. The sleek key shape fits on any key chain and holds an amazing amount of data - up to 2400 six megapixel photos or up to 2000 MP3 songs. "The Key drive makes an excellent gift, and is ideal for transporting data anywhere," stated Active Media Products' VP of Sales, Jerry Thomson. Measuring only 2.3 x 1.1 x 0.1 inches (58 x 29 x 3 mm), the Key drive is compatible with Windows, Linux and OS X, and USB 3.0, 2.0 and 1.1.

Both 4GB and 8GB USB Key drives are available now through Amazon and directly through AMP's webstore.

I had (yes "had") one by LaCie, until I lost my keys.... I hadn't lost keys in 10 years... Nice idea but beware what you copy there!

the problem i see is that those of us who put keys in pants pockets are likely to sit on them, causing the contacts to get scratched, and maybe the whole unit to get bent/snapped.

Works well for ladies to carry around in their purse, however

quite interesting how they say its compatible with USB 3.0, i'm quite sure you cant call a USB 2.0 device USB 3.0 compatible (its moreso that the USB 3.0 port is USB 2.0 compatible)

Doubtful. The PR clearly states it's a USB 2.0 device and is compatible with all type of USB ports (and OS's for that matter). I don't think a lawsuit would stick.

to be compatible with USB3.0 it has to run at 3.0 speeds... how would you react to a "USB2.0 compatible" flash drive that only worked at 1.1 speeds? yeah, you'd take it back.

Same first thing ran trough my mind...
And it's not like it wasn't that long ago, it really was. LaCie has been making these key-shaped USB drives for a long time now and I must say, they even look more robust than these.

No, it's marketed as a USB 2.0 device, that is compatible with USB 3.0. That is 100% true. It does not have to work at 3.0 speeds to be merely compatible. There is no falsehood there at all.

And with exposed USB-contacts it wont last long on a key-chain with all sorts of scratching stuff on them.
