ANTEC seems to have installed the wrong 8pin (4+4) cpu connector on psu

I made a post about this before asking about the issue and now after looking at the pins, it seem s ANTEC installed the wrong 4 pin on the cpu 4+4. 4 are ok, and 4 arent. I had a burnt/melted pin, but on the correct side of the 4pin

ANTEC VP600P. old psu. still can do its job in an FX 8320 pc. I got a 2x molex to 8 pin. cut the wires on psu and the adapter and soldered it in staggered. so heat shrink dont all sit together at the same spot. tested with multimeter. 11.97v on all. grounds also tested when inverted shows ok.

you may say well maybe its pcie. it isnt. there another 8 wires coming out that have two 2+6 connectors that say pcie on them. all the others are 24/sata/molex

this cpu 4+4 doesnt say cpu on it

the top is the adapter I soldered in. the bottom what the psu had

Bummer dude.

I stopped using Antec PSU's after I popped my Neo 480.

bummer for sure, but could have been far worse. we trust the companies to make sure these things are correct because were not there with a magnifying glass looking to see if the connectors are correct and match up. at least it should get a new life with the soldered in connector and shame on ANTEC. its not even printed as the cpu connector.

I have a HUGE list of no buy products. I have purchased a lot of antec stuff. this is the first messup. they stay on my whitelist but barely. this could have been bad. but Ill compare cases and psu from others when im considering something to buy. I did buy an el cheapo cx700 case a few days ago. very happy with it. I dont usually buy high priced things anyway. for me a case is nothing about coolness. it just holds parts inside I need.

It is not the wrong connector. It's an old PSU and older PSUs have different connectors. As see here, it is the ATX12V/EPS12V connector.

And the connections on the psu side, not the mobo side, are proprietary to the psu model.

Ummm, no, not in this case. The Antec "VP" line is their "value" (AKA, "entry-level" or budget) line and as such, those cables are hardwired into the PSU and not modular. If modular, you would be correct.

An inquisitor with 666 posts (at the time of me posting this). Nice. :D

How could it melt anyway? Even if they F*ed up the connector, the power coming through should be the same, right?

Depends on how something is mis-wired. If a short is created, Ohm's Law dictates if the voltage remains the same and resistance drops, current "must" go up. And when current goes up, if that current exceeds the capability of the wires or connection, heat too will go up.

Remember, again, this is budget Antec and likely does not have top-of-line over-current protection circuits.

from what I saw, that yellow wire had discoloration, close up to the connector and from heat, didnt melt but cracked when I took it out. it just crumbled

when I bought it I didnt do much research. its their "Very Pathetic" line hahaha, but for a 400w system itll be "enough"
