Apple's Tim Cook make his first trip to China as the CEO of the company, where he met with the Chinese Vice-Premier Li Keqiang. The two talked about three important subjects: the ongoing trademark dispute circling "iPad" brand name, strengthening of intellectual property laws in the country, and issues of workers' rights. Cook took away assurances from the high-ranking official, that China is working to strengthen intellectual property rights, and will pay more attention to "caring for workers." Tim Cook also visited foundries belonging to Foxconn, ZhengzhouTechnology Park in the north central province of Hebei, where Apple's products such as the iPhone and iPad are assembled. This facility employs about 120,000 people.

So we should see a sharp decline in the FoxConn Employee suicide rate?

Alright everybody the apple bosses are coming so keep your mouths shut, just smile and dont say anything.

You can't see it but there's a wad of bills being exchanged in that handshake.

No one sees the 10 year old kids in the fab shop, Wink Wink, While I hand you over a million in cash!

i take it they never bothered touring the c.h.u.d. wing of foxconn where the majority of mass production occurs.

did he inspect the suicide nets and promised them no paycuts to their 50 cents an hour?

Sharp decline? There should have been a 0% rate to begin with. If any employer in America drove their employees to the point of committing suicide, their would be a national outrage.

yes but america isn't as far down the corporate fascism route as china, ironic considering they run under the guise of some mutated form of communism. america is catching up to them in a hurry though. not to mention it's the west's demand for these products that driving the companies in the first place. if people consumed with any sort of thought to anything but the satisfaction of their own gluttony perhaps there would be nothing to rage against.

ahh children. your view of the world is so...youthful. apple is not the problem, the communist dictators that run china are. at the same time though you can't just flick a switch and go from communism to capitalism overnight. you cant afford worker's rights when your nation has been dirt poor for decades and is just starting to get off the ground. chinese people are scrambling for those jobs at foxconn as they are stable and believe it not pay well considering china's standard of living. but hey, if you would rather hate a profitable US company over a communist dictator be my guest. just don't vote in any US elections please.

Well technically the ones consuming the goods are to blame, if no one would purchase the good, there would be no need for 3rd world manufacturing structure.;)

But yes the communist government is also a contributing factor.

You should read up on the exact definition of fascism, and communism. Cuba is a communist country by action, china is only communism in name, just as amurica is with democracy.

just because they are a totalitarian government does not make them communist.

Readings for the young i guess, but i guess you can go with whatever major corporate news wants to label countries as and cling to that. I guess it's much easier to sleep at night when you have the bad guy's clearly pidgeon holed into a easily recognizable form of left and right.

Looks just like masters inspecting the slave plantation...

Foxconn's suicide rate is actually far below China's average. Not acceptable in US, but quite good in China.

if we didnt consume the goods then those people would not have any jobs and china would be even worse off. not sure what your point is.

china is a communist country. their leaders are avowed communists. they practice communism is china. not sure how more clear they can get about being communist. some things you dont need to over intellectualize. youthful people generally believe that countries can simply go from oppressive century old regimes to freedom and prosperity overnight. obviously those people believe the world if made of rainbows and gumdrops. what is happening at foxconn is a good thing for china and for the people working there. you cant simply have worker's rights. as a country you have to be able to afford them. nothing is free!

Keeping in leash almost 2 billion people can only be done through this type of modern Communism. And to be honest is not such a bad thing to have 0 (ZERO) unemployment rate and also each family or person to be provided an apartment for FREE after they finish their study...
