Apple to Develop the Metal Family of GPUs, Dump AMD Radeon

Has this slide been confirmed anywhere else to be real?
The fact it mentions NVIDIA just makes it sound possibly fake, since any support for NVIDIA GPUs was already dropped some time ago (last drivers even in beta-form are for macOS High Sierra released Oct 2019)

Thats not true. I have a Late-2013 MBP with an GT 750M running Catalina out of the box. You're probably thinking about Apple no longer approving the NVIDIA-made custom MacOS Drivers. Apple still provides thier own drivers for the NVIDIA hardware it still supports.

Personally no, but for their customers that description is pretty accurate I think.
I think this is a silly stereotype. Most any shiny new device is going to bring at least some sense of excitement and satisfaction at purchase/unboxing, so it’s silly to associate that phenomenon with just Apple customers. Also, we shouldn’t confuse Apple’s product announcements, with all their pomp and circumstance, with the sentiment of every Apple customer.

Yes, it’s fascinating to see where Apple will go next, and how that will move the market. And it does, because Apple is one of the dominant players in the tech world, and they capture an audience better than their peers. You’ll find many of Apple’s customers don’t immediately rush out to buy the newest hardware. My wife has an iPhone, and she could care less what Apple does or announces, and when her iPhone dies, she’ll want another because it’s familiar. And it won’t even have to be the most expensive or newest one either. Sure, Apple has their crazy, passionate fans, but that’s almost any company. You’ll also find many of those same passionate Apple customers bashing Apple when they feel Apple got it wrong. They certainly don’t give Apple a pass and fork money over. Look no further than the butterfly keyboard. Apple said it was the best new thing, the customers said otherwise, and now that keyboard is dead.

The argument feels particularly facetious on forums where people pour thousands into their computers every year, sometimes spending as much on a single component as a MacBook.

If you want the latest tech, buy it — no shade.

Yeah at the end of the day I don't care what hardware Apple use, I'm not in the market for their products.

Might suck for AMD, but business is business.

After robbing Imagination of their PowerVR and that company put all eggs in same basket and bam just like DialogSemi, GTAdvanced they are also defunct now, their architecture is now rebranded as Apple GPU BS, but it's all PowerVR. And now they even dumped AMD for their own. Sucks for AMD tbh, they were like rebranding all the crap into the mobile MXM area since 7970M but Mac was getting some custom treatment. Also Hackintosh is completely decimated now.

More walled garden, every single gaming possibility on this Mac OS is dead now, Also big middlefinger to Macintosh users as well their new OS is like same clone of Win10 which incorporates that crappy mobile UX, a glorified iOS. Although most of their userbase doesn't give a shit about any of it, except to rejoice that their Macbooks will have A series processors so they can brag day and night, I cannot wait to see now Anandtech SPEC score BS will dial all the way to 11 with this news.

People who support such nasty business practices are to blame, they buiild their machiens with full BGA solder and no choice to user, and even add custom I/O chips to further block in the same of blackbox security.

And how many millions of Apple customers didn’t camp out? There are people who camp out to buy concert tickets or season tickets to sports teams, too. Does that mean everyone who watches the team or listens to the band as equally passionate?

Camp outs are fun. I never bought Apple in my life. But I've done midnight releases for Nintendo products or various video games I care about. The best part about camp-outs is that you meet a bunch of people who share a similar enthusiasm to the product you're buying. In the case of video games, its a way to meet other people in your relatively small niche.

I don't know if I'd camp out for the PS5 yet (or if the all-digital life is going to destroy that aspect of community). But either way: doing silly things for the tech we enjoy is what makes us tech enthusiasts. (And these camp-out social events are a great way to meet people and interact with the tech community).

Compare a MacBook with an ugly black standard laptop...

The old venerable thinkpad line is probably best represented by the phrase "ugly black standard laptop," and they may be the one line that can beat apple in build quality, other than Panasonic or something equally crazy.

I own several older Thinkpads as well for that exact reason. I guess the 2K 14" Thinkpads are still good.

I'm just pondering software support, it's likely you could port your phone apps onto one but what about all the software people bought.
Most Hackintosh users are very like Devs.

Some really expensive software is not going to have a home in a few years, I would be livid if I bought reason on it or some other £300+ software.
Even emulated, the experience could be limited, those shits at Apple like to screw people for any type of memory and short change massively in memory in most cases, video and music editing likes it's memory.

My thoughts exactly; I think you may have answered your own question, their focus may not be on creative professionals.
I'm no expert, but I don't think they can match AMD or Nvidia... I just cant see how its possible.

That leaves the more money than sense market, which isn't a terrible strategy I suppose (but don't they all have 12.9" flexible ipad pros anyway? )

I honestly can't see the difference between waiting in line for an iPhone or refreshing a web page until you can place your order for a 1000$ video card.

...there is one. Just sayin'. You can't compate waiting, physically camping at a nasty storefront to clicking refresh on your computer.

Granted, it's only because apple controls the supply chain that this happens, but still.

Yes, one is more comfortable but also I don't think that the number of people buying 1200$ GPU s is the same as the number of people buying 1200$ iphones.

That's not because their mentality is any different, it's just that more less people are interested in PC hardware.

That was my point. The percentage, not the fact that you won't find similar people in the tech enthusiast community.
