The Arctic team has now confirmed that a new Accelero Xtreme VGA cooler is in the works and will reach stores in late May. Known as Accelero Xtreme III, the incoming product has a cooling capacity up to 300 Watts, it measures 288 (L) x 103 (W) x 50 (H) mm, and has 84 aluminum fins, five 6 mm copper heatpipes, three 92 mm (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) fans working at 900 to 2000 RPM, and a copper base with pre-applied MX-4 thermal compound.

Arctic's cooler is backed by a six-year warranty and is compatible with the following cards:

- AMD Radeon HD 7870, 7850, 6970, 6950, 6870, 6850, 6790, 5870, 5850, 5830, 4890, 4870, 4850, 4830, 3870, 3850

- NVIDIA GeForce 580, 570, 560Ti, 560 SE, 560, 550Ti, 480, 460 SE, 460, 450, 250, 240 (OEM), 150 (OEM), 130 (OEM), 9800 GTX+, 9800 GTX, 9800 GT, 9600 GT, 9600 GSO 512, 9600 GSO, 9500 GT (not LP), 8800 Ultra (G80), 8800 GTX (G80), 8800 GTS 512 (G92), 8800 GTS (G92), 8800 GTS (G80), 8800 GT, 8800 GS (9600GSO), 7900 GTX, 7800 GTX 512, 7800 GTX, 7800 GT, AND custom GeForce GTX 680s that don't have a 'double deck power socket' (unfortunately the AX III is of no use on stock cards).

The Accelero Xtreme III is set to become available on May 21st, priced at $119.95 / €90.41.

Exact same as the Plus 2 with the addition of a couple extra accessories. Hardly enough to warrant a $20 price increase.

I saw this press release and my first though was: Oh, I hope this means the Plus II's drop in price. I want to buy their products, but I just can't bring myself to spend a third of what I paid for my video card just to make it quiet.

I hope is better than the versions that ruined a lot of 4870X2 or 5970 cards because of bad screws and stuff...

i want one foe 580 .........

This thing is only cooling the the GPU directly.
Rams and PWM stay "nacked" and are only cooled by the airflow ?

Is this enough, or will they "die" faster ?

Yes they do come with ram and vrm heatsinks but No support for the new GTX 680...yet?

It supports it as far as they have the same mounting hole placements as Fermi. It's just that this doesn't fit with the stupid double slot PCI-E power connectors. It will fit perfectly fine on a Kepler without that.

Yeah that stacked power connector is awful. Are there custom designs that use the standard 6/8 pin layout?

I wish someone would someday start bothering about VRM as well. These offer superb cooling for GPU but VRAM and VRM is very poorly cooled.

same design like their previous cooler, big cooler, heavy with big card and triple fans, i hope it aint gonna bend your card

Evil, it destroyed my 5970

Then you did something wrong. I have one on mine for years, and it keeps mine always cool at load.

Actually, he's correct. The AC 5970 cooler "on release" did in fact kill "some" cards out right, but mostly it killed a DVI port. They revised it, and to my recollection didn't even admit their liability.

My Galaxy GTX 580 sporting this cooler comes with a massive VRM heatsink and stays ice cold. Runs at 950 core no problem and never breaks 60c. That was a problem on GTX 480s VRMS but has been fixed with newer heatsinks on the GTX 580 series. This cooler is flat out awesome. FYI it never had trouble with ram cooling and always came with great ram heatsinks. Not that it needs them with the giant amout of air flow the fans put out.

Wait so it fits nearly everything, but the GTX 470 . . .:shadedshu

If it fits a 480, it most definitely will fit a 470.. There's no doubt about that.

The reason why the 470/465 is "unsupported" is because of the VRM sinks supplied. They sell a VR003 kit for the Accelero Xtreme Plus which has a special 470/465 VRM heatsink. You should be able to make due with the other sinks provided, but they are cheap little aluminum pieces and won't prevent the VRMs from overheating with a heavy load.

It looks exactly like version 1 and 2 with more mounting brackets. Hell I'm selling version 1 with 2 additional bracket for $50 shipped.

Hi bmwmaster,

some people make their own mod :twitch:

check out this dude with his solution for VRM cooling combined with the Arctic Accelero Xtreme Plus:

Won't work in CF (too big) but it looks nice.

I'll be saving some penny's to go for 2 x Xtreme Plus II versions for my rig, because the temps rise very quickly @ my VTX3D HD6950 cards.
