you must forget the drama around BioShock Remastered. at launch it used compressed audio files, making the sound worse, I believe the community was in uproar about it so they put the original audio files back in.

I might be remembering wrong, but pretty sure even Bioshock remastered screwed something up if I am remembering right

-----

I would say Empire Earth on PC re-mastered would be great, because it does something no other RTS game does, it goes from caveman days to futuristic. it does need an update though, it did not age well.

I didn't play the remaster when it released. I...don't trust rereleases that come out of left field. When I finally played everything was working...but that was months after release. Just like Dead Space, I cannot verify what things were at all points...only what I actually played. I do hear Dead Space is a remake done right...but because of my choices will not play it.

None.

For everything that's faithful, there's an equal number of cash grab pieces of garbage that besmirch the name of the old for more monetization.

I say this with only two games that I believe are perfect remakes. The first is Destroy All Humans, and the second is Bioshock Remastered. Both of these games took what worked, did a minimum of bizarro new monetization, and made it all work.

If I could be assured that all the old mechanics would be intact, I'd like to see a lot of games updated.
FF9 - I have little love for 7, but 9 was a good deal of fun. Vivi is still my mage of choice.
Fur Fighters - Platforming, gunning, and good stupid fun.
Timesplitters - The last game where gameplay was rewarded. No credit card needed, just enormous amounts of playing to unlock everything...plus that cheesy delicious humor.

I'd love to add Deadspace to my remake list...but I'm still boycotting EA. Denuvo is poison, their platform should just be Steam integrated, and they've killed more franchises than I can name in 60 seconds. "I don't like their business, so I'm just not going to buy it." They...may not have thought that comment out, but it's as true today as when they thought all of us sheeple would be too stupid to stop buying their annual rereleases with less content at higher prices.
Honestly I just played Dead Space at native 2560x1440 (the original) and it plays & looks more than fine. Game withstood the test of time easily imho. Animations are already very good, art design was unchanged, etc. And frankly, I don't even want that game to have more content to it. The vanilla campaign is fine in length, suspense, and in offering you everything the franchise has to offer. By the time you hit those last few levels you've really seen it all. At least, that was my take away after completing it, I had no desire whatsoever to do it again with some snippets of extra content or better gfx.

i only ever played the original, I still have my disc. it was great back in the CRT monitor days... however, it didn't age as well as other RTS games, the scaling of resolutions/animations, etc. warcraft 3 for example, aged extremely well, even playing the original at 1440p it looks like a 1440p game, and the animations are top tier.

that being said, I do remember loving EE back in the day. good times indeed
Yeah all those early 3D games suffer from horrible aging, and to be entirely fair, even at the time, if it wasn't for its novelty, a simple 2D isometric was always more playable and mechanically sound, while 3D was plagued with clipping issues, gunfire passing through height differences (and still hitting target - this still happens even today), and all the tactical issues that presented. Some games weighed height/terrain differences but nine out of ten times you had to swing camera around to even discover what was a hill in the pixel mess.

Still I must agree, Empire Earth was cool, for having all those units and ages, really fun to play around with. But as a game with sound mechanics and good balance? Nah. Like you say, its like you enter another world when you compare that to Warcraft 3. That just works... and it is pseudo 3D really, at its core its just a 2D isometric.

To be fair even today I still prefer isometric camera for anything tactical. Dragon Age Inquisition is a great example of how unnecessary and pretty crappy a free camera is in a tactical game. It hardly makes sense and its mostly just another axis of control to manage. Although sure, you can also have better viewpoints and play the game as if it's a third person action.

Most games are best left alone. But some, by it's unique game design or atmosphere just cry for a remake, f.e.:

Bad Company 2 (2010)
Favourite game ever! Has tons of features and mechanics you won't find in modern Battlefield games. Destruction 2.0, "War Tapes" HD sound, dirty language & all the "legacy features" a Battlefield game used to have. Sadly with all the elite dev's leaving cancerous EA we won't get something even close again. Only cringe woke trash like BF2042.

Split/Second (2010)
One of the best arcade racers of all time. From Disney. You can trigger explosives and change the track, very Michael Bay'ish. Tried the multiplayer back then and it really sucked mostly thanks to no anticheat and loosers just triggering every explosive on you. So it added some extra challenge, lol.

Turok (1997) & Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (1998)
Turok introduced gamers to a world teeming with cunning enemies, traps, puzzles and deadly weapons all within a vast 3D environment ready to explore. Has a great soundtrack & atmosphere.

Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse (2005) Be the Zombie. Kick A** and Take Brains
World in Conflict: Complete Edition (one of the best RTS ever made)
Gran Tursimo 1-4 (esp. for the classic tracks)
Metal Gear Solid Classics (Collection already confirmed)
Deus Ex
F.E.A.R.
007 Goldeneye
Super Mario (Classics incl. Mario Kart)
F-Zero
Blur

Arcanoid ...

There is a remake on STEAM, Arkanoid - Eternal Battle. Mixed reviews. Doesn't carry a lot of nostagia. :shadedshu:

A remake of the Vice City remake..... :D

Grand Theft Auto 6's setting will be Miami, so you'll kinda get a remake of Vice City. :)

The original Commandos game and its sequel/expansion, specifically.....

Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty

In the last couple years they remastered Commandos 2: Men of Courage and Commandos 3: Destination Berlin but they missed a big chunk of old fans by doing nothing to the original games that helped define the RTT genre

Many popular SNES and Genesis games have been remade. But my favorites (that haven't been remade yet) were "Sunset Riders" (SNES), and Chiki Chiki Boys (Genesis). These two deserve a remake.

That being said, "Deathwish Enforcers" is a game today in 2023 that's VERY Sunset Riders-like. Its not a proper remake, but a new game in the old style is a good sign.

I guess I can make an "Mother 3" joke or "Earthbound" joke as well.

Would honestly love a Summon Night Swordcraft Story 1/2 (don't remember playing the third one, so I'll leave it out) remake or even remaster, either for the Switch or the PC. Never played the main series, but I played the hell out of those spin-offs on GBA back in the day.

Although I'm not holding my breath it's Parasite Eve for me as well. Hopefully with the popularity of the RE remakes SquareEnix looks into it. Even a remaster in the vien of Crisis Core would be awesome.

Legend of Dragoon would be my second choice.

I'm on the Legend of Dragoon bandwagon also. However, If AAA game companies are wanting to charge $70 now for a game.. then.. I want a playable copy of the original included in the purchase price.

Please don't give them ideas. I know and you know they're going to make the worst possible remake regardless of the original game.

the fact that a second was never made and the studio shut down is a travesty. I blame everyone who only know enjoys the game and didn't buy enough back then.

That one is rumored to be in the works. The remaster of System Shock 1 seems to have been a resounding success and making a lot of money for the devs.
At least a friend of mine who is a System Shock fan said that the remake is a good game.
