ASUS announced its flagship single-GPU graphics card based on the GeForce GTX 980 chip, the Republic of Gamers (ROG) MATRIX Platinum. This is the company's third factory-overclocked and custom-designed GTX 980 offering, after the GTX 980 Poseidon, and the GTX 980 Strix OC. The card features a signature ROG-themed air cooling solution, with a high-density fin-stack heatsink, to which heat drawn from the GPU are fed by 10 mm-thick heat pipes, and cooled by two fans, one of which is an ASUS-designed CoolTech hybrid fan, which pushes air both laterally, and axially.

The PCB of the GTX 980 ROG Matrix, features a strong 14-phase VRM, which powers not just the GPU and memory, but also an ASUS-exclusive "defroster" circuit, which is essentially a resistive trace running through key areas of the card, which heats up, preventing frost formation, when the card is under LN2 cooling. As expected, this card comes factory-overclocked, and while ASUS didn't reveal the core clock, its GPU Boost frequency is a staggering 1342 MHz. The memory is untouched, at 7.00 GHz. Other features include a color-coded load indicator, ROG-themed GPU Tweak utility, and a back-plate. ASUS didn't reveal pricing details.

The same roadmap as the 700 series is repeated ...

And recently i saw that the gtx 980 Ti specs are leaked.

South Korean entertainment gossip site. Seems legit.

True. :banghead:

I think I've completely wrong.

Because Asus has realized his Matrix card for the 780 Ti and not for the 780 reference.

So even the roadmap is not equal.

It is logical that Nvidia is not going to repeat what he did with the 700 series.

I think that no one knows what he has in mind NVidia next year.

I believe a Dual GPU of $ 1,000 as the GTX 690 considering the reduced consumption of 980 GPU as those two can also work at standard frequencies and not reduced to contain the heat.

MSI aren't releasing a Lightning 980 so perhaps there is more to come. However I think we'll not see any more powerful Nvidia cards until AMD's next gen. It doesn't make any business sense to do anything yet.

MSI isn't releasing a 980 lightning because they screwed up two times in the past. GTX 780 Lightning was bombed by GTX 780 Ti launch, HD 7970 Lightning was bombed by HD 7970 GHz Edition launch. Their product managers don't want to lose their jobs. They're probably just as clueless about NVIDIA's future high-end chips as us.

Yes, PCB is 1:1 the same as 780Ti. The molex is for the additional "memory defrosting" circuit integrated in the PCB itself.

I love this series. May be it's time to change my 780Ti Matrix for this one If it's available anytime soon, because finding a 780Ti Matrix was pain in the ass. :D

Sorry but that seems illogical to me for them to release this that fast and even so under the name 980ti. Anything is possible but releasing a 980ti already would basically even with a few SMU's being locked waiting in the background seems like a poor choice to show your hand that fast. More than likely that is Titan II they are speaking of which honestly is still not predicted until sometime probably late Q1 2015. I do not believe they would release a 980ti to begin with and even if they do not this soon but that of course is my speculation.

The ROG matrix cards are pretty nice, I wonder how far this one will go because the classified EVGA 980 hit 1600+ MHz pretty easily and with people reporting 1700+ using the special custom bios.

Graphics card with webasto, I presume it's for dice/ln2 overclockers. How is tdp/voltage limits in your 780ti matrix, is it nvidia restrictions or does asus have them own.

why presuming a answer when the answer itself is in the OP O.o

but also an ASUS-exclusive "defroster" circuit, which is essentially a resistive trace running through key areas of the card, which heats up, preventing frost formation, when the card is under LN2 cooling.

well nice one ... i loved my 580 Matrix Platinum but ... will wait quite more before looking into the next gen.

If you use the LN2 switch (and solder 1 point on the PCB) - it's absolutely unlocked and ready to rock. :D

p.p. I still haven't done it.

I deeply doubt it.

Why?! Changing jobs is always fun, especially when you get some holidays between them, and then find something even more entertaining and gives new beginnings. :D

Seriously though, everything is known, but in the wild, people get a little bit confused.
