During an overclocking competition help by ASUS and Dutch tech website Tweakers.net, a participant named Neil Breems managed to achieve some stellar results on the ASUS GeForce GTX 285 Matrix. Cooled using a liquid nitrogen evaporator, the graphics card was able to reach 1100 MHz (core), 2452 MHz (shader) and 2800 MHz (memory), way up from the reference speeds of 648/1476/2484 MHz (core/shader/memory). The overclocked settings were set using a tweaked version of RivaTuner. Breems put the card to test using 3DMark06.

Since the rest of the bench was made of an Intel P55 based motherboard running an unreleased 2.66 GHz Core i5 750, Tweakers.net couldn't publish the final score and CPU score, but went ahead with its GPU-related scores that included GT1: 58.863 fps, GT2 57.762 fps, HDR1 112.6 fps, and 73.84 fps for HDR2. The memory to drive the system Corsair Dominator GT DDR3-2000, and the system powered by Corsair HX850W.

Many Thanks to iDont for sending this in.

Ouch, that's a crazy overclock, too bad that these overclocked systems are not usable.

(Imagine playing and having to refill that tube every day with Nitrogen....)

People don't drag-race their way to the office.

4way sli those and run off an PHII for 06 and i7 for vantage mind blasting fps's.

Man 1.1 ghz on a 285 with 2.4 ghz shader clock is imense!

apple juice is a pre-requisite for the best OC's

Does the card have any hard mods?

Well done on a very extreme oc on the 285 neil :respect:

tigger

Can you pm me the cpu score please? ;)

I won one of these Matrix cards, still have yet to install it.

i have a feeling they hid the 3dmark06 score because it wasn't as impressive as they thought it would be...

Or it could be what the news post said, and that they didn't want the CPU scores of the unreleased CPU being put out on the net yet.

They weren't, because the cpu was running stock.

Was just to see how high the gpu could go. :)
Will test more soon. :D

1100 core speed

Unfortunately the CPU speed was holding back all the subscores. The SM 2.0 and 3.0 scores would scale much higher with a faster CPU. I can get over 11000 points in the SM2/3 tests with 2 8800GTs and a 4.3GHz i7 920. I can only imagine what this 285 will do with a highly overclocked CPU. I'm guessing an overall 3DM06 score of around 28500 with just a single card! Hopefully nV's next generation of cards really pushes down the price on these Matrix 285's. It would be great to hit 800MHz with water on the GPU with just softmods. My 8800GTs are a bit long in the tooth...

Scores?

Special thanks to www.tweakers.net and Milan from Asus Netherlands

Did you use two cards or one? Because GPU-Z reports PCI-E 2.0 x8 for the card, there should be another one?

One card ;)

Dunno why and if pcie switched to 8x, score doesn't look like it. :P

Well then that's a mighty good score for GTX 285 on PCI-E 2.0 x8. Should be encouraging for potential P55 users.

new WR with 2 of those babies in SLI, you should oc that cpu, could maybe get a few thou by that alone, good work :toast:
