Here's the first picture of the ASUS ROG Maximus XII Extreme Gundam, a new Socket LGA1200 motherboard based on the Intel Z490 chipset, courtesy of VideoCardz. Based on the original Maximus XII Extreme, the Extreme Gundam is a step-up, and comes with a custom-design full-coverage water block, and styling resembling that of a Gundam mecha. Vast bits of silver covering the acrylic top of the FC block, fuse with bright bits of blue, red, and yellow. Supplied by EK Water Blocks, the full-coverage water block cools the processor, CPU VRM, and the Z490 PCH. It's also possible that the M.2 heatsinks on the board shed some of their heat onto the block. The board is otherwise identical to the original Maximus XII Extreme. We're also getting to learn that ASUS has a whole lineup of products planned, based on the Gundam theme.

They're all OK products, look.

Fresh look, Today's motherboard models are too saturated with black and white.

That is ugly.

Bro, where are the PCI-E slots???

There we go, I mean that 18-metre replica in Yokohama did make a splash in the Netsphere....so yeah. They might as well ride the wave.

Very low effort

That board is looking at me ugly. kinda scary

Kid in 2020: "Mommy, mommy can I have that big board with the robots?"

Why does this board have 2 internal Type C headers if most cases don't even have one?

It looks like Intel and partners are changing their target group. Pair this what that Marvell themed Core i9 that they released a couple months back, and you have a dream PC for any 6 year-old.

Nah, more like a 10 year old. But plenty of boring sterile basic PCs available for you though. Millions of them end up in corporate eWaste. Grab one.

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely not against the idea of making PC parts look more interesting. THIS is not the direction I have in mind, though. Sometimes less is more.

All the time, really, if you ask me. We've devolved way too far into more territory as it is.

would have preferred to see the Gundam Unicorn, it looks better.

The Zaku cooler looks kind of entertainig, but the rest...

You know what? I say why not. More design/color/style variety is fine. Not everyone will agree to it, but it's a break from the usual black/white/silver with color/RGB accents. Sure, we still should get some clean designs like the NZXT Motherboards or the minimalist "Creator"-type boards that are mostly silver/white with a stray RGB accent, but throw in more variety like this. Just make it low volume production.

We have the Razer collab. Now we have the Gundam collab. There was also the NVIDIA mini-collabs with Star Wars and Assassins Creed. Let's go further.
  • Get Yeston to do a Waifu Edition pink motherboard and a Cute Pet Edition cotton-candy blue and pink motherboard.
  • Get Galax to do a Star Edition customizable motherboard similar to their 2060 Super Star GPU with customizable board coverings and backplate.
  • MSI should capitalize on dragons and fantasy themes; maybe a Fantasy-themed Warcraft mobo with Activision, or a Monster Hunter World mobo, or a Final Fantasy mobo.
  • ASUS is already doing weird stuff like Hot Pink and Black, and mobos with built-in screens.
  • AsRock should do a few AMD-themed mobos for the official AMD Store, featuring Ruby (red-themed including red PCB; waifu graphics optional), Ryzen (colors matching the Ryzen color gradient), and Classic AMD Green (old-school Green PCB with some modern touches).
  • Have some custom Fortnite, Warframe, Minecraft, Destiny, Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed, etc Edition mobos for themed budget builds or system creators ("Minecraft ready", "Fortnite ready").
  • Hollywood, Netflix, Amazon Video, etc are desperate for some promotional advertising, so why not a few Movie/Series tie-in Editions, whether it's mice, keyboards, mobos, or even GPUs? These could be actual limited production things too.

The zaku cooler is nice and I genuinely like that gundam motherboard with the waterblock. Clean primary colors and no BS “1337 gamer” graphics and decals. I would consider it for the next build if it was x570...

buy the red one, as it will be 3x faster :) trust me on this.

I'd like a closer look at the case that resembles a Coke can.

Hi,
Only 1k.us lol

Think giga water force was a silly 1200.us so asua will likely be about that or more :D
