ASUS ROG Strix XG32UQ Brings HDMI 2.1 and 4K at 160 Hz

Mr. Wallet is blushing behind you.
I just ever liked 1080p...
I must've had some 20 different displays over the years, everything from a 640x480 14" iiyama CRT to my current 4k 27" Asus display. Most of the brands I've owned are no longer around.

Well, you could use a micro USB-B 3.0 or USB-C as well...
Can't say I've seen any monitors with micro USB-B 3.0 though.
If there aren't any problems with the lack of space - USB type B all the way. It's much sturdier.

But USB-C delivers power to attached devices, as well as video, so it can be useful in many cases.

That Corsair 32" 4K monitor announced a week ago looks better on specs for $999.
I'm guessing this might be around $899, as the PG32UQ retails for $999 still.

It's 160 Hz and the price hasn't been revealed. It's just a guess based on what similar products from Asus and its competitors cost.
I believe it to be more of an educated guess.
Economy of scale.
I would agree if it's a Rolls-Royce or track car or even those Aliexpress handheld PS2, this intended for the general public, plusS amsung display makes OLED screens and even in the QD-OLED variety, as such IMO there is no justification to sell an LCD with these kind of prices.

HDR600. This is DoA
Yeah, we have right now real hdr 1000 nits for 996 usd and Asus wants to charge 1k for 600 nits, this must be a joke, cant believe they will charge 1k for it, soon 2k mini led zones 1400 nits hdr will be 1k and Asus still selling 16 zones hdr 600 nits for 1k eheh, yeah doa.

The USB type B is just an input from the computer on this monitor making both of those points irrelevant. Full size type B > type C > micro B. Type B is far more durable than type C which is important as a monitor will easily last 10 years. Type C can supposedly withstand being reseated more than type B but as this will be plugged in more often than not, the connecter being pulled from the side is a more important issue and where type B is infinitely better.

This is the kind of display i'm after
4k, 120Hz+ - not VA (tired of VA issues)

It's just... everything is either $3K Au or has serious issues (samsung's VA panels are so erratic)

A 42" OLED TV would work better, if they didnt have the brightness flickering issues due to OLED burnout prevention

fun fact, these can be disabled in the service menu (at least on my 9 series). I did that with reckless abandon when I got my b9 2+ years ago first thing. Still no burn in and now no APL too.

If i found a way to get extended warranty to cover OLED burn in, I'd go that road for sure
2x 32" -> 1x 42" is workable for a monitor, i've tried 40" and 55" in the past and found 55 is too big for desktop use, but the 40" worked well (This was a decade ago, bezels etc have shrunk a LOT since then making it more practical now, too)

Edit: Harvey normans extended warranty covers burn in. They replace the TV or give store credit if it's discontinued at the time of failure.

If they cant tell you disabled/altered the protection settings in the service menu, that's a very tempting route to go

Except turning off APL and other limits with service remote would also void your warranty.

Could void warranty, might not
Extended warranty from stores here doesn't go into details like that

Don't get me wrong i'm not going to buy a screen and disable the OLED saving stuff - but some of them default to some really aggressive settings worth tweaking if possible

Please can anyone confirm is this monitor have built-in speakers or not?

This is very important to me, bcz I don't buy monitor with built-in speakers.

That's a really weird reason to not buy a monitor

It's so easy to just... not use them.

"chicken ribs" --- tasteless when eaten but a pity to throw away.

Monitor speakers are like chicken ribs, so I always buy monitors without speakers, and buy a bose soundlink mini to use as monitor speakers.
