ASUS to Cut Motherboard Prices by 5-10%

ASUS is preparing to cut prices of its motherboards by 5-10%, according a Taiwan-based newspaper. The Economic Daily News (translated) reports that the company is preparing these 5-10% retail price-cuts across its lineup, in a bid to compete better with second-best (by volume) Gigabyte, trailed closely by ASRock, and MSI. The paper observes that the cuts could impact Gigabyte's sales in China, making it fall short of its 5.5-6 million units shipped goal, down to 5.4 million, in Q3 2014. Its annual target of 21.5 million could drop to 20 million. ASUS shipped 10.4 million motherboards in the first half (Q1 and Q2) of 2014, and aims to ship 22.1 million units by the year-end.



Update (17/09): ASUS stated that it currently does not plan to cut prices of its motherboards.

I appreciate the lower prices. Given that I do not perform any heavy overclocking, ASUS boards are rarely the cheapest for the features I want so I rarely buy them. My last 3 motherboards have been ASRock boards because they were the least expensive and I am generally happy with them. Lower priced ASUS boards will make me more likely to buy ASUS in the future.

5 to 10% wont affect much, since many aspects affect the price and they should offer wider range from lower to higher price

I usually buy Asus boards. I bought a Gigabyte board before and liked it just fine but it eventually started to fail. Beyond that I have never really had a retail motherboard fail on me. That's not to say I would never buy another Gigabyte board because I very might but I still prefer Asus.

Certainly good news. I've noticed since Z87 Asus seem to have increased their prices for their mobos and made them less desirable because of the fewer features per $ when compared to the competition (specifically Gigabyte and ASRock being the better value where I live).
