See, the 0X0000 becomes the "ATI Radeon HD 4850" = ati2mtag_RV7X, PCI\VEN_0000&DEV_9442 in that line.

So from the start.

If you actually ahve the Vendor code, and Device ID from the BIOS VS from windows it is better. The driver/windows only reports what is currenly in use according to the installation. Thus the reason i used to change my X800GTO to all sorts of cards, and could still install the correct driver.

If you have falsified information to windows you are starting off wrong.

I didn't, to begin with I didnt know anything about device ids or vendor codes or even to do anything to registries.

I was familiar with changing it from the bios as I've had previous experiences with bios modifications.

All I have done from the very beginning is within the bios is to change the vendor code, the one in the bios in RBE. I do not know how to change it any other way.
I did exactly what you have shown in the picture above, in the very beginning I changed it to something else....at first to the gainward/cardexpert then later on i tried the ati one.

I only tried other things after reading your guide on how to add vendor codes and such to the driver inf.

I compared and noticed that it was the same with the exception of the parts after

Palit (original bios) when installed with 9.12 it shows this.
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9442&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_00

Ati: (changed from palit bios) when installed with 10.1
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9442&SUBSYS_00001002&REV_00

I believe when I changed the vendor code in the bios the bold numbers change, not the ones in the front.
Which is also why in the gpu-z pictures show that device id remains the same but the subvendor code changes.

I'm confused. So, to install 10.1, I have get a bios, edit it, and flash the card?
I've never modified my card's bios, everything's stock.

Thats the only way I have gotten it to work, only reason why I did it like that was cause I was changing up my bios for other things too, like voltages/fan speeds/operating speeds etc.
So it was something I just tried kind while doing other changes.

If you have never done it before, I would say that there is always some kind of risk involved when flashing your video card and that you should read up on it before you attempt to do so.

i have a palit HD4650 and the 10.1 driver was an ass to install and to be fair im not even sure if it did install or reverted back to windows driver but 10.2's installed just fine, this time round i couldent even be bothered to remove the older drivers and everything is working just fine and dandy.
