Yea. Its no lo ger fun with these insane prices. 5 series will have some bullshit tactic like dlss 4 only on 5 series cards. Im done.
I'm expecting a Witcher 4 demo at CES showcasing Blackwell propriety exclusive feature set based on the trailer.
This thread is so depressing.

I've got a coworker I'm doing a build for and we've been hunting a decently priced 4090 and that's just impossible. He's gotta sit on his 2070s til either 50 series or he accepts depression.
Not as depressing as the Whisleblower against open ai that just allegedly suicided himself Boing style. I can't wait for this ai bubble to peak already.

Follow my lead build the rest of the system and wait for the 5080s to drop. You'll pay a fraction of the cost. Use the GeForce ultimate experience $10 trail to get your daily fix of dopamine while you wait a month. It's the worst time to buy a high end enthusiast level graphics card imo.

The 4070ti or 4080 are damn good cards and reasonably priced. Only a friendly suggestion.

I would ask, but that's not the nicest, so I'll just mind my own business.
He's got a preference of "it's worked with no issues and I don't want issues." I don't blame him for having that stance but man just getting an XTX would be so much easier at this point.

Hard agree, modern AMD drivers are as good as, if not better than, modern NVIDIA drivers.

They both work perfectly fine for me overall. I admit I have my preferences like NVIDIA for production and AMD for games and I do have uses for both. However I don't really lean towards one or the other.

No they're not. I deal with drivers from both on a regular basis. NVidia's are the better of the two by a wide margin. Intel's ARC drivers and control panel are somewhere in between.
Really? Including the Control Panel/Software? I have a 3060 based laptop and cannot agree with that statement.

I love how people think the 5090 isn't going to be expensive. When the f****** 4090 right now is going for 2400 dollars. The 5090 after artificially inflation will be over three grand. Watch guarantee it.

A 4090 based laptop can be as high as $7000 Canadian where I live.

Not sure but some are hoping for pricing before the the end of life supply of the 4090s just a few weeks back as low as $1700. I guess if you don't look at the 99% of timing of the 4090 in the market for the past 25 months and just focus at the end of life supply it does seem like that.

Update current rumors is a paper launch of $1900 for reference model and towards $2499 for non reference models.

I did bite the bullet and made a windows update recently.
A very old game, the long dark crashed. I always keep my installers. I reverted back to the previous amd drivers and the crashes are gone.

It annoys me when a very old game just crashes. I never had any crashes on my previous gaming laptop wiht a nvidia 660m gtx on windows 10.

the windows 11 pro amd gpu drivers have a lot of issues. very often not even the big graphicial user interface does not open. so i can not check anything, although the icon is in the task bar.

In my small sample size of 1 with the powercolor 7800XT hellhound with windows 11 pro the amd drivers are worse.

When just running again the old amd driver installer and just "downgrade" fixes a crash issue - you know the culprit. that game does not really have savepoints - so you loose a lot of gaming progress.

-- urbanterror never crashes in gnu gentoo linux with the 7800xt. I play that for hours.

  • there is currently the lost gaming profile bug
  • there is currently can not import properly gaming profile bug
  • there is currently the game profile is not applied to the running binary bug
  • there is currently a game is not found bug. (I mostly play 99% those epic games free games. On windows a software should be able to check which exe is running and collect those games and game paths. The amd driver can not do that. Hardly any game is found. Although all games are just in one subfolder of c:)

The amd driver are not really performing well. There was also the memory bug with the Radeon 6800. Which I was forced to sell.

I*d say there are even more bugs which I even not aware of. I do not use 70% of the features of that amd windows gpu driver.

I used to play The Long Dark like crazy back when I ran my Radeons. I'd say I played at least 1,600 hours of this on a Vega Frontier. Used to run it on the R9 Fury X plenty as well. There were a few crashes, yes, but nothing too major from what I recall.

But that's what's always been my first and foremost issue with AMD drivers, they're utterly unpredictable and there is no consistency in release quality, oftentimes you have no recourse but to revert to an earlier version in order to workaround a driver regression or newly introduced bug.
