Well, first thing: open the case and track the smell and check to see any visible sign of stuff going in flames. It is likely PSU but could also be a lot of other things like naked wires shorting out.

Anytime I see someone list a PSU without a brand, I'm kinda scared.

Any idea what it is?

Agreed. We need the make and model of the PSU. 525W sounds suspicious to me. Sounds like you cheaped out on the most important component in the whole build.

Swap out PSU for another of larger size with friend, about 650w. If all is good buy another PSU.

Great recommendations although 140 is a lot for my budget , should i go for something around 80$ or am i dreaming ...

$120 after rebate either version.
At $80 I'm afraid you won't get quality or longevity.

Newegg.ca does not have the same variety as USA. I looked at other units at Bronze level and I don't feel comfortable with recommending anything less.

EVGA 500W, it's not the best, but I've used dozens of them for office PC's, low-end gaming PC's, and not a single one has failed yet. I stopped using Antec because of failures.

EVGA makes nicer PSU's as well, but with that system this 500W unit should suffice if money is tight now. It'll do a fine job, keeps cool, I've pushed an i7/16gb ddr3/3XHDD/GTX770 with OC's on that PSU and it didn't even budge...voltages stayed well within limits, and it never even got hot...barely warm in all honesty.

It only has a 3yr warranty, but for a budget PSU, I'd look nowhere else than this in my experience, not saying I've tried them all. I also have had good luck with a 1st gen Corsair CX430, but I have been told the newer ones aren't as reliable and solid...mine is pushing 5 years old and hasn't faltered yet (see specs in sig).

There are some decent budget PSU's, but there's so many PSU's in the budget range it is tough to find the good ones sometimes, but this PSU I have no problem standing behind based on experience. :toast:

I would try a warranty return of the existing PSU. Why not?

EDIT: Nvm, a quick google reveals the PSU may not be worth trying to RMA. Sounds like a crap unit in general.

I'd go with the EVGA above as well.

Take a whiff of one of the vents. You'll know for sure when you've found it.

Edit: Might want to check the motherboard on the 20/24-pin ATX and 12v EPS connectors for scorch marks too.

True. It could easily be a misplugged connector. I once had smoke and flames because a card reader which used a floppy plug for power was plugged in on only 2 prongs instead of all. The result of me trying to plug it in by feel. (walks away sheepishly).
