Going to grab a 4770K and Asus Hero tomorrow any reason I should not?

Reviews look solid and Dave give's it a big thumbs up, I am however torn between this and the MSI G65 board.

I've owned all the Maximus boards from X38 and up to the Maximus V so I feel I should just continue on.

I think the point is to look at the board as a whole, not just a socket for a CPU. What else do you intend to run on it? Any half-decent board will house your i7 properly. It's the connectivity, expandability, audio performance, BIOS options and usability, etc. that should make it or break it for you.

Same as what the above poster said, I would also say go with the msi, the feature set offered for the price cant be beat especially if you live by a microcenter.

the 8 SATA ports are a bonus compared to my 6 now.

Other than that a solid board with decent OC features to max my OC.
Reliability and of course service after that sale and I have only excellent experiences with Asus so far.

Canadian ...no micro center here

It's really a toss up, I would say go with the Asus, but if it were me, I would go MSI for the same reason you would go with the ASUS.

I do like the MSI . Hammeron just did a sweet build and gave the board a lot of praise.

looking at your system specs why not use that money towards a beefier gpu?

The Hero seems like a good board from what I have read. I do like the MSI board and would definitely recomend it for those looking to build a Haswell rig:toast:
With that said I have mostly used ASUS boards. I am replacing the MSI board with the MVIE (already have one) when I get the rest of my water cooling gear for the GPU's (waiting on backplates that should be here tomorrow:)).

Hey if you don't mind, how much is the water cooling for the GPUs costing you? Did you buy full blocks?

my 2 7870's are more than I need now, no need to upgrade gpu

Thanks for chiming in, I'm sold on the Asus board.

I've also owned ROG boards since the 790i and you can't go wrong with the Hero.

Having said that, this generation I decided to give MSI a try and so far I've been really happy with the results, great OCing, stability and overall awesome value.

Either way you go, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the results :rockout:

I bought the board and have it powered up now and having a strange issue.

Mouse and keyboard work in bios but do not work in windows. Went to do a clean os install and won't see the keyboard or mouse. I'm stumped for ideas. Checked the bios and can't see a setting so other than trying another keyboard and mouse I don't know what to do.

Legacy usb support in bios enabled?

Yes, I reset the bios and it seems to be okay now. I also unplugged the front usb header connector so hopefully it was the bios.

My opinion?
I NEED A HEROOOO! I'M HOLDIN OUT FOR A HERO TO THE END OF THE NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!

Thank me later.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH im crying!

great now ive gave myself an 'earworm' song stuck in my head..... i need a hero!

I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight

Bonnie Tyler right...I remember that song when Sting use to come out of no where in the crows costume.

Build a few gaming rigs for friends with Hero, awesome board!

Where have all good men gone
And where are all the AMD gods?
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the BENCHING odds?

Isn’t there a RED knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and overclock of what I need

I need an AMD hero
I’m holding out for a AMD hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a AMD hero
I’m holding out for a AMD hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta have larger caps than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest overclock fantasy
Somewhere clocks just beyond my reach
There’s someone reaching BLCK is not for me

Racing on the thunder and rising with the vcore heat
It’s gonna take a super clock to sweep me off my feet

I need a AMD hero
I’m holding out for a AMD hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a AMD hero
I’m holding out for a AMD hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta have larger caps than life

Up Where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning VRMS splits the sea
I would swear that there’s someone somewhere
Watching me (overclock)
Through the wind and the aircooled chill and the waterloop rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel this approach
Like a fire in my cpu blood

I need a AMD hero
I’m holding out for a AMD hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a AMD hero
I’m holding out for a AMD hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta have larger caps than life

That's hilarious.... I was thinking the same thing last night.

Other than a bios setting, board is pretty solid. No issues so far, got the ac turned up and going to start overclocking
