Activision's latest blockbuster in the Call of Duty franchise has been announced to have brought in something to the tune of $600 million to the company's coffers. That's a whole lot of money - but remember we're talking about an actual finished Call of Duty game that includes a single-player campaign. Yearly installments have proven to not do any harm to Call of Duty - it remains one of the biggest entertainment launches every year, which is part of the reason why Activision has three development studios constantly working on the franchise, with three-year development cycles for each title (this particular release was created by Infinity Ward). That's a big level of commitment, and it usually shows in the finished quality of the games.

The game has overtaken all previous releases in the franchise for this current generation of consoles (and PC). Reasons for that surely include the reference to one of the franchises most beloved entries, the homonymous Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the return of Captain Price, but surely the presence of a single-player campaign and the absence of any microtransactions pulled their weight in this release success. If there were any doubts on Call of Duty keeping its momentum, they have to be postponed to next year's release.

So wait, its actually good?

A lot of people love Call of Duty games. Every year the fans scoop up the new one and look forward to the next one.

It's been a cash cow for Activision for a long time now.

interesting,

I really enjoyed CoD2 - can't say I recall playing the first one, but the second one I really liked. Played through a number of times.

I played CoD3, MW, WoW and MW2 - they all kind of just sucked. I haven't bothered with a CoD since and I just have troubles understanding the appeal the rehashed games have for folks. I guess I'm kind of surprised so many folks are still interested in the franchise since it was put through the wringer a handful of times and generally comes out crappier each time.

I guess it's good that this release appears to be doing well. It's just not my cup of tea.

The story is better then usual but otherwise it still has the fundemental flaws that COD has had since MW1.

The price for this game is uberly ridiculous! No wonder they made so much money.

It's $60, like every other AAA game released in the last like 10 years.

Campaign mode wasn't as bad as previous games. I like how they are starting to incorporate more from previous Modern Warfare games. Seems like there was more production value that went in to this one

souns like more of a hit and miss too me

it should be under $20 after Christmas and after everyone forgets about it, I might snag it well after that and play the single player for the story.

I stopped playing all COD after MW2.

oh and day 1 launch of this game was a complete joke, I wasn't there because I don't have the game, but I heard every server was down and the first 24+ hours no one could play online.

Except you forgot, it’s an Activision game. No publisher maintains artificially high prices for as long as Activision does. It’s literally years before reduction. Then this will go to $ 49.99, and only occasionally on a big sale will it drop to $39.99.

Unless Activision forgets about their own way they do business, this is exactly how it will go.

Good to see we are still supporting China

No worries... saves me time never playing it because I would never pay over $20 for this game. a single player game isn't worth $50 to me

Not that I would buy the game in the first place but I have a hard time supporting anything Activision does. They are running Blizzard into the ground similar to what EA has done to Bioware.

ONLY 600 mil? Someone's not getting their Christmas bonus this year.

First 1 hour and (roughly) 24 minutes. I was with DrDisrespect when everybody was hammering the servers.

Go on steam and look at older CoD titles. They are still above $30. And the first few are like $10-20

Yup! That’s what I refer to. Artificially high prices that sometimes don’t even come down in a big sale.

The campaign on this game is outstanding... Combat on sp is fantastic and matches how mp does on WWII..

I'm on the edge of quiting multiplayer.
I've already turned off cross-play because console players get Auto-aim and PlayStation players cause a strange lag.. It's almost a if they are getting an unfair advantage.. Like whenever the ai has to decide who got the kill it's always the PlayStation player.

Even with cross-play off there is some kind of lag that's just inexcusable...I get killed so often from invisible players that were apparently standing in front of me.
Or I get a lot of "visual noise" as I call it..I really don't know how else to describe it other than a its jittered nonsense.
I'm giving it one more patch and if it's not better than fuck it.. Not worth it.

Activision doesn't like marking down their games. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Remastered released at $40 three years ago and it's still $40. From my own experience I wanted Black Ops 1 just to try a Black Ops game. I routinely checked sales on Steam and it took 5 years after release to get it for $20. It's $19.60 on sale right now if anyone is interested.
