Chinese Government Closes Foxconn and Samsung Factories Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Tbh, people
At this point, it would do the same thing.

I mean it's bad, but not that bad. We're still talking less than a few thousand confirmed cases globally right now, and most are contained to China.

tbh, I can begin to understand the rationale of people
It's not people are dying at rate that is a greater magnitude in the middle east and except those affected in some way, no one could be bothered to give a damn. People keeling over after catching the killer sniffles people on the other half of the world in "bumf**k egypt" are losing their shit. In my mind, I'm more likely to be in the next 9/11 or Boston Marathon Incident than emcounter this thing.

Closed?! They should have just locked the fuckers inside!!

Cleanest places in the country, probably.

Yes, it has always been Chinas dream to break their own economy.

Maybe not the people, but the CCCP i would not put it passed them.

I would not be surprised if this is not due to these wet markets.

True. Aren't they practically self-contained facilities with employees living in dorms

Well so it's begun, we need to get semiconductor manufacturing out of China asap

Not really. Some assembly line workers live in dorms inside, engineers and managers live in dorms or rented apartments outside. Assembly lines of Foxconn is very very clean, but anything else, including offices are dirty AF. I was seeing rats everyday.

Best the W.H.O just corden of China and let no one in or out as it's already spread to Australia and New Zealand by escapees I suggest they take the tactic of shoot first then burn for anyone trying to get out

Yep and we get 40 Flights every day from China......thats a hell of alot! Not looking good for us if they keep the flights coming in.

Corona and it's kin has killed 88,000 this year just in the U.S.

Alcohol is a legal killer that generates revenue so don't mention that

I wonder how many times I've seen that joke already...

We're currently in the early stages of this outbreak. There's a lot of "it's not as bad as this/that" in between the Corona Extra jokes, but really, we don't know how far this thing is going to go.

I think frankly, that's insane.

The CCP wants desperately to hang on to power. They hang on to power by selling things so they can fund enough civil works that the people don't entirely go insane and revolt. You think they can sell things to dead people, or if the global economy crashes? Hell no.

Their motivation if they made this may be control, but it has absolutely nothing to do with economics.

It might be my OCD talking, but I'm definitely putting my travel plans to Denmark on hold until this thing blows over... Assuming it actually does blow over.

California has its first confirmed case, a person from Orange County. Then there was the first US reported case in Washington state. Now health officials are saying there might be one confirmed at Texas A&M. In general though, the CDC is saying the overall risk to the US population is low, and several big airports that do flights to and from China have already begun screening passengers coming into the country from China for signs of the virus.

Seriously, this is why health and safety regulations NEED to exist and NEED to be obeyed and enforced. Especially in a country of 1.386 BILLION (in 2017. That number has most certainly increased by now) people... India is in 2nd, with 1.339 billion.

That's the thing no one knows but people are trying to be alarmists, saying thousands are infected and is spread globally despite the fact that is has been spreading uncontained since Dec and just recently measure have been enacted. Considering that, current infection rates are pitiful, were firmly somewhere on the handle portion of the hockey stick and not exploding or growing exponentially as some claimed.

Global economy

Yes, because recession means instability and a higher chance for conflict, and that is really something China is always eager for, right?

They also benefit greatly with all those dollars they still have, if those drop in value. Right? ..... There are also far better ways to kill an economy and China owns many of those levers. They can just change some numbers and percentages and poof. Look at trade tariffs for a good example.

Its popular these days it seems to judge an effect as an intent. The two are not the same thing, and since everything is connected, where will you stop? This is how alleged conspiracies are born, based on nothing.

Its not helpful in any way, also referred to as FUD

Blame the chinese government for allowing the black market to continue in middle of a city and then the weird generation of individuals that indulge in eating like wild beast and the rest of the world has to suffer for it.
You would hope the chinese government would step up their game over this after SARs and MERs but nope..maybe this is the 3rd time the charm and they will actually ban eating silly things like bats, snakes and other weird things , crack down the black market and take hygiene a lot more serious than just be concerned about pollution.
I'm so looking forward to getting stared down or get even worse treatment for something I didn't even do or get assumptions i've came/recently been China despite being born in the UK and never been to the mainland in my whole life.
Expect most eastern Asians to potentially get slight mistreated in other parts of the world.

Let's hope not, that would indeed be the definition of "Very Bad"..

I won't disagree with you. I do, however, believe there are a few biologically engineered viruses that have been let loose, but didn't cause the kind of plague or removal of certain races of people that was hoped for....

Then again, what do I know? I've got a few conspiracy theories floating in my head that are a bit of a stretch even for most conspiracy nut jobs.

Guys, if you all die from this virus can I have your PCs?

They hang on to power by selling things so they can fund enough civil works that the people don't entirely go insane and revolt.
That's not the only way they hang onto their power, I'd argue their biggest resource has always been fear ~ from The Purge i.e. cultural revolution till date.

That's not to say that they're indeed behind this, but I would still have that possibility in the top 10 list of what could've gone wrong!

i worry more about products with higher prices such as nvidia high end gpus or the next navi high end cards

Well Nvidia high end GPUs are stupidly priced to begin with. In Canada the 2080TI is $1650 and the 2080 Super is $1300+ but I get what you are saying I was just using 1 example, this could impact every single component in the PC space.

It's just news hype. When it surpasses this then holler....

So far, 8,200 people have died and 140,000 people have been hospitalized during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to preliminary estimates from the CDC.

The mortality rate of this new virus is around 10% with modern medicine. Without looking it up I suspect the mortality rate for the flu is around 0.01% or less, making this new virus around 10,000x more lethal than the common flu.

Mortality rate goes up much higher if the numbers of those infected surpasses the ability to provide proper care to those people.

This isn't hype. It's actually quite serious.
