Evidently, buyers still fall for the old memory amount trick when choosing graphics cards, and Club 3D isn't late to capitalize on that. The company released a new GeForce GT 640 low-profile double-slot graphics card that crams in 4 GB of GDDR3 memory. Its GPU is clocked at 900 MHz, and memory at 1600 MHz. The 4 GB memory is spread across a 128-bit wide interface. Display outputs include dual-link DVI, HDMI, and D-Sub. Based on the 28 nm GK107 GPU, the GeForce GT 640 packs 384 CUDA cores. Here's the kicker - it is priced at 177€.

I need this for my old Windows XP 32 machine.

why would you put 4Gb on such a low end graphics card? it's like having 4 wheel drive on Toyota corolla.

nice...surround gaming with just 177€ card :toast:

These low-end cards with their high amount of VRAM are perfect for Photoshopping and other GPU intensive 2D works, but 177€, seriously?

omg :D 177€, "nice", they could go with 6GB and sell that for like 250€, cuz there is no cards 6GB cards in that price range ;)

Yeah, if there was 6-8 gigs of VRAM they could easily ask for some 500 euro... Just a few years ago you could get junk like this one for 50-70 euro, and now :banghead:

Edit: doesn't they look like twins?

I don't get.........why 4 GB on this puny card?

Having 4WD or AWD on any car is nice. :wtf:

Nice that it's low profile though. You can stick that in a tiny case.

yeah does, anyone get 4 gigs in such a weak card ?

Becuase innocent customers may fall into the trap and pay so much for a 4GB card to discover it later?

4GB is nothing. NEED 8GB!!

lololol congrats on an epic fail with that gfx

Reminds me of when (long ago when I was a noob) I had bought a Nvidia FX5500 being impressed at its massive 256MB Vram... most cards then had 64MB or 128MB, and were 4x as powerful!

Yeah, this is nothing new. Also, bta is sneakily inserting opinions in his posts!

Can I install games in it? I bet it will accelerate my fps by a lot!

It's probably the lowest grade DDR3 the could get on the cheap, then indicated with the reduced effective clock speed they use. Like that it's at least it's a half-height, Nvidia should have release the reference 640 based solely on the purpose of SFF that might helped justify that MSRP price.

Well a AWD/4WD in a crap car that started as underpowered… it’s not, because it doesn’t make it more effective, the added weight and gearing slows it down keeping you out of problem only in those really averse conditions… the rest of the time you're slow and not as efficient. When done right there’s a lot of good, slapped on as an afterthought it’s just bad.
This said by a guy who knows just how wild a AWD CVT Subaru Justy could be, not that owned one but plenty fun windshield time in cars we were expected to drive hard.

4GB WITH DDR3 LMFAOA HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Seriously what is up with these weird cards coming out lol
