Corsair actually makes PSUs now? Or is this another rebrand?

they are designed in-house or side by side with the OEM by Corsair as are most of their units, CWT makes them

Width is already a limiting factor in PSUs and now you're proposing to narrow them further... as well as adding an area that will never receive airflow. Hmmm, I wonder why PSU manufacturers haven't gone down this path...

I'd have agreed with You like 15 years ago, when PSUs had to accomodate huge heatsinks to stay quiet under load.

But If You can make a 1kW SFX power supply, I don't see a reason for not making a slightly narrower ATX one.

And SFX PSUs are noticeably more expensive than standard ATX ones precisely because of the size constraints, which require the use of higher-quality components to provide those levels of output in the smaller space. Not to mention that SFX variants are often unable to attain the same performance numbers as an equivalently-specced ATX model, or have to run their fans for longer, or make a bunch more other compromises.

The price is more about the niche they're in. SFX is not a popular format, so manufacturers don't mass-produce them in amounts similar to those of ATX. And, since customers have lesser choice, the price also can be set up steeper than normal.

This is fair, and of course one could argue that if smaller PSUs requiring smaller components became more mainstream, demand of those components would increase which would increase supply which would lower prices, thus decreasing the price of smaller PSUs.

What is most annoying is that this is not evident when buying the product - that now I need a much wider case. I got the TMx Shift with a Fractal case, tested everything outside the case - and then find the cables are compressed tight with the case cover. I wish Corsair had given some warning before I bought the product - as it is, it is too late to return the product, I have taken out the pieces.

Hi,
Well most the time people look at the unit
If you didn't notice the wiring coming out the side and not the end think you just have to learn through hard knocks and sell it or buy a new case I'm sure corsair has one to match the psu.

Seeing it inside the case in the last pic wired up makes me actually wonder why this isnt standard already.

Do you have a link? Id like to check it out. Im slowly researching what my next build is going to be like (hopefully this year) and was looking at the HXi 1000w PSU from corsair.
Likely most don't need or have room for a double wide atx case

It's your responsibility as the consumer to research before buying.

inb4 posts about computers on fire due to cables being excessively bent and squished against the side panel.

Seriously, whose idea was this?

I have about 2 inches of space, and will find out in about a week haha.

Will these become obsolete quicker, because of the plans to change the power connectors on boards for reduced power? (the voltage changes mentioned in an earlier TPU article).

IDK where you live but in most regions you return things even if you’ve opened or used them. Might be worth trying!
