Corsair on Wednesday refreshed its RMx series premium power-supply series with new 2021 models. Available in capacities of 1000 W, 850 W, 750 W, 650 W, and 550 W, these PSUs succeed the previous generation RMx series by featuring a new 135 mm "Magnetic Levitation" bearing fan that's designed for extremely high durability. This design change, along with other minor updates to the internals, allow Corsair to give these PSUs 10-year warranties. The PSUs continue to offer Cybenetics Gold switching efficiency with Acoustic A- rating, full modular cabling, and include two 4+4 pin EPS connectors on all models except 550 W. Prices should be on-par with the outgoing RMx series.

I think Corsair can't sell the fans from the ML series, so repurposed it to cool their PSU. :oops:

Its one of the fans that I will strongly recommend not to buy because despite the gimmicky "magnetic lev" it is very loud at high RPM. The 2x 120mm and 1x 140mm ML fan all behave about the same. The 140mm one is slightly quieter due to the slower RPM.

Having owned their previous models i'd return that thinking it was faulty!

I own some ML120 and ML140 fans and they're super quiet at low RPM so this is a bit of a shock to me that they're so bad in the PSU

edit: ah there was two models with different RPM, the high RPM one was a leafblower

Well technically corsair having bought a company that was in some patent lawsuit against steam over the buttons on the back of the controller...

I remember deciding corsair is a terrible company and I never want to buy any of their products again...something along those lines anyway.

This is result of rather high RPMs in comparison with previous versions on pre-release samples. Jon said that they reduced RPMs in the end so maybe we'll see Aris editing the review with the new data soon.

Now, to the article, didn't both 2015 and 2018 RM-x (and RM 2019 too) already have 10 years warranty ? What are you taking about @btarunr ?
 
Upgraded warranty? The previous versions of RMx also have the same time period for warranty...might want to correct that :)

Just read the kitguru review on the 2021 rm1000x and they said it was

quality fan – low noise with high airflow

Maybe read the review instead of just taking that one graph out of context?
With high loads on the minor rails, the fan-stop feature doesn't operate as expected, as the fan operates most of the time. Moreover, the fan-speed profile gets very aggressive once you push the minor rails. This is something I also observed in some Corsair SF models, and it seems the issue has returned. Hopefully, Corsair will address it—the sooner, the better.
 
I think its because the new RMx has aggressive fan profile verses the relaxed profiles found in the 2018 RMx which some people complained about, yet no real issue happend from it
It was too relaxed on the old RMx and its too aggressive on the new RMx so they went too far in the other direction
The dumbest thing this problem could be avoided if CWT / Corsair added a simple on/off switch for the hybrid fan mode so users had the option to have it off or on rather than it being forced on them

Again, did you read the part of the review i quoted?
At least according to crmaris it seems to have to do with putting some load on the minor rails which seems to make the fan controller go nuts. Could just be a poorly programmed firmware. Wouldn't be the first time a company has done that, or left something at default.

How would that help when the issue is related to the fan controller kicking the fan into overdrive because there's an above a certain level of pre-defined load on the minor rails?
You just want to turn off the fan controller altogether?

The unit in the review is pre-production sample, they lowered the RPM already in retail units.
 
I'm a big fan of maglev's. I use Sunon's original patented blower ones and Corsairs 140mm in all my rigs.

Here's the thing. The MagLev bearing isn't the most quiet. It's more in line with DBB noise wise. But because the impeller literally touches nothing, they almost NEVER DIE. They are hard to beat for my application of "system in a remote data closet with blowers."

Corsair ML and this fan have different impellers, they didn't repurpose them, it's not that simple.

I can see that. I don't really disagree, was just pointing out in my experience they aren't much worse than a DBB fan, which some big manufacturers are quite fond of (EVGA comes to mind).

Corsair ML and this fan have different impellers, they didn't repurpose them, it's not that simple.
Are we certain about that? It could be I just don't see a reason for it without evidence...
 
Well I'm happy I just bought an RMx 750 (2018) for my new build. This series is very quiet, so not sure why they'd ruin that with crappy mag lev fans. Did the price rise on the 2021 series for the new fans?

I was asking for a link to a review with a fan teardown since you presumably know of one. That's the only way you'd see the impeller.

If you are too busy to provide one, that's fine I get it. I was just hoping you had it at hand or something.

You don't need a fan teardown to see the impeller, that's another word for the fan blades or the fan rotor, you can see impellers for Corsair ML/ML Pro just by Googling it and the recent review for RM-x 2021 on this very site shows the fan and it's impeller. They're clearly different, other than that there's not much difference i assume, but 'repurposing' as in scrapping the old impeller and slapping the new one wouldn't happen, it's ridiculous concept and it's not like Corsair had a bunch of spare maglev bearing lying around so they could put them into the production of PSU fans, they don't manufacture fans themselves, Sunon does.

Ah never heard it used that way. The impeller is technically the center pin in the fan hub, it levitates via magnetism in a maglev fan, hence "mag" "lev"
