@Voluman That's the unescapable downside of stacking more bits into a single cell :(
Whoever needs to do intensive writes has to shell out for a more expensive MLC drive. Or maybe XPoint, at some point (pun intended).

Xpoint prices are going down a *little bit*. Still, you won't have much space.

QLC might be interesting for NASes. I'm curious how cheaper say 6TB (when/if such thing ever appears) QLC SSD might be compared to the current offerings (which are ridiculously expensive).

Isn't your average NAS capped to Gigabit Ethernet anyway?

Not necessarily. I noticed QNAP NASes (even the 2 bay ones) have optional 10Gbit ports (and some models even have them by default, even supporting the new 2.5/5Gbit speeds).

For one user at a time a conventional HDD is sufficient for sure, but if you have a few users and maybe use the thing as a torrent box, SSDs might be nice. I'm still undecided what to do - will probably swap the WD Reds with Reds Pro soonish. 5400rpm is not going to cut it for much longer.

Nice review :) Bit of a shame about the throttling but then that said I'm sure the faster Samsungs etc do the same as well...

As for price/performance, definite bargain. I'm not really so fussed about how long a file takes to open up etc as the 0.5 seconds gap between this and a top of the line Samsung isn't to me worth the extra. That said, having this sort of size and performance is decent and nothing to be sniffed at, at all :) If only they made them bigger..... :)

I long for a 10Gb ethernet at home... But you do need the drive speed there to support it :) These would be great to have if they made them the size of some of the Seagate Ironwolf/WD Reds etc...

The thing is, for its intended use, there's already the MX500 at the same price point that will not yields as badly to intensive writes. It's not NVMe, but as a storage drive, it will do just as fine.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I'm thinking of replacing my 256GB Intel 600p nvme. My choice was the 512GB Adata Sx8200 pro which cost around $88 in my country. I saw that the 1TB P1 is around $92. Which would be a better choice for some gaming and Photoshop?

Start a dedicated thread if you're to ask an unrelated question.
Better yet, open up the reviews and check for yourself. I'm sure the admins wouldn't mind the page clicks, you know, since they went to all that trouble to review SSDs ;)

18 months later and this drive can be had for $109usd and performs within 10% of the most expensive nvme on Gen 3 PCIe. Makes Gen 4 a questionable investment for most at almost half the cost. Raid then starts to look REAL good!
