CRYORIG seeks to impress with the A40 Ultimate. Utilizing a unique design and features such as its hybrid airflow fan, it not only cools the CPU but other components as well. At first glance it is indeed much the same yet different enough to stand out in an otherwise crowded market.

Yeah that looks awkward. That airflow fan might ease temps of vrms and socket surrounding components, so you should have flir to actually see if it has any use. Though with proper cooled case it might just intervene cooling anyway.
 
And a bigger fan can work better?
 
I started using a Antec SpotCool 100 fan to cool the VRMs on my X79. I found out that a lot of my early instabilities were due to the VRMs having no airflow around them despite the gap between the edge of the motherboard and my H105 being very close together. There just wasnt enough airflow over them. Since ive installed the fan, I havent had a CPU related BSOD even once.

It also might be useful in cooling down M.2 SSD if the slot is in that area.
 
Initially I thought that VRM fan a good idea, as I have suggested it numerous times, but the orientation of the pump places the hoses in the way of the airflow.
The hoses need to be moved out of the way, and the pump redesigned to allow that.
 
I was expecting it to be quite a bit quieter than it was, if it was quieter, this CLC would be fantastic

Agreed. When I first saw this I also thought that wasn't going to work well with it blowing mostly on the pump housing and the tubes itself.
 
I tried with the coolers orientation multiple ways the tubing doesn't block airflow enough to matter. The simple fact is that mainstream processors ie LGA115x do not use enough power to require active cooling. This CLC makes more sense on x79 / x99 etc where higher power draw means the active cooling component would prove more useful. That and AMD FX etc may benefit as well but for 115x and Skylake its moot.

Using a digital thermometer and built in temp sensors on the motherboard the difference was tiny.

I'd still like to see some noise to performance charts. From price/performance/noise perspective this thing looks like a rather big disappointment.

Yeah. Maybe some very small builds with bad case cooling, it will help to prevent heat traps even on socket115x intels(well the size of the radiator make this point quite moot anyway). But in normal use cases you are right.
 
The low noise is what got me to eye this model in particular. I have an In Win 805 coming and was considering, (incoming newbie question)....

Would you mount this so the outside air blows inside the case, or, would I mount it to the front so the fans blow the air out the front.

I'm also considering an EVGA Hybrid cooler for my new 1080 GTX Founders. Anyone have any insights?

So I have a H90 with custom p/p Akasa Viper, looks quite efficient, but not enough over 4.7GHZ+ and 1.29v+.


I was thinking about this A40Ultimate, hard to get now, but I found one somewhat "cheap" 126€ at amazon.it.

I'm also thinking about new H115i Pro, but I would have to buy extra 120 to 140mm fan adapters and it would be a tight fit, Haf932 v2 has ~ 34cm, this cooler is 31.5cm, but I think I would manage to squeeze it in on top.



That said, what would you recommend, A40U or H115i pro? A40U apparently lowered vrm area by 10C with that mini cooler and this got my attention too

3rd option would be Fractal Celsius S24.
 
H115i pro will likely be quieter than the A40U but as you have noticed in some situations the airflow fan can add extra cooling to the motherboard VRM area. The overall performance will be similar so it comes down to what you want more.

Fancy RGB with magnetic bearing fans for quiet operation or extra VRM cooling.

I was thinking to replace those A40U fans or keep them at max 1200-1400rpm.

I'm not interested at RGB on H115i, but mostly for its silence and effective cooling - since its newest and all.. but yeah I'm a bit worried about that tight fit.


What about Celsius S24, which would you chose Celsius or A40U, lets say A40 doesn't have that addon fan, just pure company vs company quality, etc. By more reviews its seems to be quite good too @ pwm mode.



In worst case I always wanted EKWB predator 240 aka new phoenix MLC 240, but this thing is 240€.. 66€ block, 170€ radiator.
 
Theres no difference in quality really the A40 and Celsius S24 are both asetek units if memory serves me right.

Celsius is quieter and features a built in fan hub on the radiator to keep wiring tidy. I definitely prefer the Celsius personally over the A40 but the A40 with the extra fan does offer in specific situations better cooling due to the third fan.
