CSGO stuttering every 5 seconds mystery (ex. 5800x3d stutter topic)

Hello,

Trying to find any help I can find in defeating the stupid stutter after upgrading to a 5800x3d.
Stutters happen in CS GO and PUBG, every 5-10 seconds and look like assets loading. Stutters can be seen as frametime spikes in afterburner.
I do not see stutters that often in Warzone or Cyberpunk, but still, happen once in 20 mins maybe.
Before upgrade, my 5800x ran fine.
I have tried so far:
  1. Reinstall Windows 10 and 11
  2. Disable all services no related to Windows
  3. Different GPU (2060)
  4. Different CPU (another 5800x3d)
  5. Different PSU
  6. Different motherboard
  7. Different CL16 ram
  8. Rechecked all connections to PSU
  9. Clean install all available drivers for 4080
  10. Disable ftpm in bios
  11. DIsable xmp in bios
  12. Reinstall games
  13. BIOS: Disabled CPPC preferred, C-states, XMP. Set PCIe slot to gen4
  14. I tried different HDMI and DP cables
  15. Different GPU
  16. All kinds of stress tests run fine.
  17. Cs go specific: default settings, set affitiny, priority, -threads 8, -nojoy etc.
  18. Chipset drivers
  19. All sorts of Nvidia drivers
My pc:

I have no idea what could be wrong at this point. Should i start replacing the CPU or the motherboard?

The AB readout shows the framerate and frametime spikes, but they don't correspond in any meaningful way to the GPU/CPU readouts. PUBG (as much as I play it) is a sack of poo. It wouldn't surprise me if those spikes are game related. You said you also get a stutter in Cyberpunk or Warzone but only once in 20 minutes (which is an exceptionally odd thing to notice and time) but the frequency of spikes in PUBG, makes me think it's a PUBG thing.

I have a friend whose system plummeted during smoke graphics, and they have a decent GPU and CPU. Fixed by changing the DX API.

I think this is a PUBG thang.

I had the same thing (in CS Source, CS:GO and TF2) as I upgraded my 5800x to x3d - tried all the same things as you.
Turned out it was my Razer Viper 8k that did mess something up. Uninstalled the Razer software and changed the mouse to PulseFire Haste,
and the stuttering/freezing was gone. I think it was the 8K polling rate that messed things up, and not the CPU.

I've tested a different mouse too, still happens

I agree that both CS go and PUBG are old and unoptimised, but I've seen youtube benchmarks with these games and same CPU GPU setups and the do not have the same frametime spikes.

Does that board have TPM ?
I would disable it or turn it off competely

My MSI board does that stutter & down clock, slow down like that with TMP enable.

fTPM disabled.
I have just installed an actual TPM 2.0 module to my mobo to see if this helps and it did not

Type "Exploit Protection" into the search box in win 10.

Set Control Flow Guard (CFG) to Off by default. Restart and test.

Also you can set the GPU to MSI mode with High interrupt setting and it'll change the GPU from queue polling to direct.
Get msi tool from here, run as admin, check the box for your gpu if it isn't already, set priority to high, apply in top right and restart.

Maybe try disabling HAGS (Hardware accelerated GPU Scheduling)

no changes with completely disabled

Maybe try disabling HAGS (Hardware accelerated GPU Scheduling)
same results with HAGS on or off

Did you actually reset the bios after upgrading?? I don't see that on your troubleshooting steps.
You need to do that after a major upgrade.

If you did reset, did you update the bios? Gigabyte has some bios that claim improved system stability post 5800x3d support. Might help.

Yes, I've taken the battery out for each bios update. I now have the latest bios from gigabyte for my mobo (with x3d support)

Which different GPU did you test with?

Oh yea, the past few drivers are just shitty in my experience. Nvidia drivers are amd level now, or amd drivers are nvidia level?

Try 517.48 and see if the problems persists.

This is the last fully stable and good nvidia driver in my experience.

UE can be a stuttery mess, in Squad which uses UE 4.26 even hovering over a map interface can cause massive frametime spike.

Squad nonsense that I'm fighting on my end atm (can't pin point it yet, occurs randomly):
1675689182042.png

Regular frametime spikes appearing randomly, usually 4 in a row with the first one causing microfreeze which in a competitive game can be a matter of life and death.

As for Nvidia, yeah it still has some nonsense, case in point:
1675689093099.png

Somehow GPU clocks can ramp up (together with wattage) when you're have D3D11 app running in windowed fullscreen and alt-tab to a different app window. This can be easily recognized with coil whine, when it actually becomes worse when you alt-tab out of the game into a different window (say MSI afterburner).

Can you test with an AMD GPU? Maybe it's and nVidia driver issue?

Unfortunately, I can't try an AMD GPU. As for my Nvidia card, 517 is not available.

Do you still have 5800X? If so, swap it in and see if you're able to reproduce the issue. It might some windows update nonsense.

My quad frametime spike issue is something I noticed 2-3 weeks ago, there was no major code revision/patch in the game since December and I haven't messed with any of the hardware configs. Tried 522 and 528 drivers, same thing.

It might just be the game that's somehow broken, maybe it's loading assets during the staging phase. Do all players load at the same time or can they hop in during staging in PUBG? Is the stutter regular/frequent during normal gameplay?

I was so naive to sell my CPU and GPU once I've stress-tested them.
I think I'll buy a cheap used amd and give it a go.

Just saw you are running the 4080. 517 wont work with you yeah.

For what is worth, pubg for me was always a mess, no matter the settings or hardware. High framerates but with really bad frametimes.

For PUBG same stutters appear when running around after plane drop as well. Can occur pretty randomly and sometimes look like assets loading.
For CS:GO, stutters more often, mainly when moving the mouse and running around. If i stay afk and don't move the mouse, no framtime spikes.

Verify with some games that aren't running legacy or POS code. If you don't see frequent stutter then you're just chasing ghosts.
