@BSim500 Back in the days when I developed the A4 together with the community it was a community decision move forward with a single USB at the front. 99% of my customers put the case on the desk so it is very easy connecting devices on the back of the case.
Can you fit a 15mm 4TB HDD on the front as suggested by londiste? A client wants an A4 system, so the question is not theoretical.

Hard drive stuff is nicely covered on the specs page. 15mm drives in HDD bay, 9mm drives on the front.
4TB SSDs are not that unbearably expensive these days :)

A4-SFXv4.1 1 x 2.5" HDD/SSD in front-area Max. height 9 mm

In Australia, 4TB SSDs are unbearably expensive these days. HDD 4TB $240 AUD. SSD 4TB $500-600 AUD.

I REALLY like this case, and the client will likely pay for the 4TB SSD, but this build is starting to get Apple expensive.

londiste, thank you for pointing out the Compatibility: Hard Disk Drives section on the Specification page. I missed that by scrolling too quickly. I now know what is possible. :)
