So what is it? Does the shader compilation in the menu continue after the message disappears or what? Am I supposed to guess when all shaders have been compiled?
There's a shader compilation screen before the main menu (on first startup). Once that is finished, you get the main menu, settings, can start a new game. Once you've played for 5 minutes or so, all smooth, the game will stutter like crazy and compile another round of shaders (without actually telling you), then it's smooth again for 15 minutes and another round of shader compiles.

Yeah, I understood all that was said in the review. That's why I complained. But then supposedly Digital Foundry had no problems with shader compilation, but I haven't watched their video yet.

Clearly you dont overclock your ram and cpu in bios, if you did youd understand why a 5 minute wait time 20+ times in a row can be frustrating
I run it at 6000 MHz. Call it EXPO, or whatever you will. My POST time before my monitor gets the first signal is exactly 28 seconds. It's not the end of the world.

'Hyperbole' and 'literal' are very different, although most people use 'literally' the wrong way - I still do in spoken english, annoyingly (I literally do it all the time [see how easy it is!]). Hyperbole is plain exaggeration. Using 'literally' means the statement is a fact. You can't really equate the two, as they break one another. To be frank, 'literal' is a stupid term; it's almost always used in the wrong context, and the few times it should be used, it's an unnecessary word.
Didn't expect I'd have to explain how intentionally using "literally" instead of "figuratively" is hyperbole, but there we go.

I would play the original first and if you really like it then play the remake on harder difficulty, since Dead Space 1 is not super long, though I'm not sure if they altered the difficulties in some way in the remake. I think the original is safer bet due to the changes to voice acting in the remake, but I think both in the end will offer the same tension and survival. Horror though is something that can be hampered in remakes, because often things that create a scary atmosphere are hard to nail perfectly. Also the remake requires patching yet, so I wouldn't bother suffering through it if the greatness of the original is yet to be experienced. Some say the remake is in quite a good state, but others say otherwise.
I guess I'll do that, thanks. :)

Played it last night and got a locked 60@4k with native Res no AA and blur disabled everything else ultra.
I used vsync but I saw only the shader compilation issues no other..

So far well worth a look excellent remake of a good game.

Game run very smooth, easy 4K 120FPS maxed settings with DLSS.Q

RTAO look better than SSAO too, RTAO vs SSAO comparison
