Dell has announced at CES their new ultrathin 27" monitor. Aptly (and maybe unoriginally) named the "Dell 27 Ultrathin Monitor", it sports a Quad HD (2,560 by 1,440 pixels) screen with a 178º viewing angle which also supports HDR (though apparently, and according to Dell, not the same as HDR standards you'll find in 4K TVs. However, it will still be able to display higher contrast and color range than most consumer monitors, with support for up to 99 percent of the SRGB gamut.

The screen also pivots on its stand, which lets you adjust its angle. And the stand is how Dell managed to make such a thin monitor: instead of having most of its hardware sitting behind the screen, Dell moved it down to the base, which makes the monitor seem almost like an all-in-one machine. While the base is a bit chunky, it may be forgiven on the basis of the screen thinness, as well as the inclusion of a USB Type-C connection with power support, an HDMI 2.0 port, and an audio line out.

You can grab the Dell 27 Ultrathin on March 23rd for $700.

My inner logical personality tells me "you can buy a pair of 4K monitors for that kind of money", but my enthusiastic personality makes my eyes twitch in search of $700.:wtf:
Looks awesome! Always liked Dell for their displays.

I definitely want to hear more about this beautiful monitor! Looking forward to reviews.

You could also buy 7 cheap 1080p monitors. You get what you pay for.

Always liked Dell display looks. Except now that 2 (different models at that) out of my 3 Dell displays have died out of awful capacitors, I will never again trust or buy Dell displays. The quality is just BAD.

For that much, I would rather spend a little more and get two 4k displays.

My three work just fine. There were another 9 to 12 of them (same model,) at my last job (two of which were at my cube,) and there hadn't been a problem with a single one. My experience has been quite the opposite, I've had practically zero issues with Dell displays.

Simply put, anecdotal evidence is no evidence at all. I had to send a display back to HannsG 4 times in the past because I think they suck but, I bet you most people haven't had that problem.

In my eyes ultrafat screen is better because better cooling and bigger crumple zones.

It's not a car. If your display requires a crumple zone, I suspect that you're using it wrong. ;)

Over the years of monitor ownership stupid random stuff can happen :D

RIP VESA mounting..

On the other hand, DELL should turn this thing into an AIO- just make that base a little thicker and we'd have a good alternative to aesthetics offered by the iMac.

I haven't had any issues out of mine either. I am rather happy with my 23.8" 4K IPS display.

wtf only 99% of SRGB?

please tell me this is also 99% of Adobe. :/

I would put a $100 to it and get 3 really nice 40" 1080 TV's lol, might not even need the extra 100$.

Hate to think what the monitor would do if the table\desk was knocked lol.

The design is top notch. Gotta give them credit.

Oh cute, they've designed it like a desk lamp. I love the novelty. :)

In practice though, I wonder if the monitor would start to drop over time with all that weight on the flexible support?

My old LG had a similar through-hole standoff, made of plastic - no problems there. And that's with my habit of tilting the screen back and forth.
This one seems to be completely metal...

A dozen of retina screens[LG], or 6" 2K tablet screens with MIPI DSI driver boards would be a lot more fun on the same budget :toast:
Just imagine, a super-ultrawide 24-25" multi-screen with an effective resolution of 10240x4320!

no FreeSync 2? then its no good at all
