Over the years I have built up a ridiculous collection of old PCs and dreaded the recycling cost. Just found out there is a Dell/Goodwill recycling program which is now local to me and will save me a good amount of angst.

Was wondering how the program pays for itself.

I suppose it is funded through resales, they likely have a few technicians to fix them up and then they are put up for sale at an affordable price. I believe that is how we get cheap old Optiplexes that are in good working condition :)

If it's terribly old they will tear it down and sell the parts off to the highest bidder to be shredded for scrap value. If it's remotely modern or in some way valuable, it'll get resold AS-IS. If it's very modern it will be refurbished and sold as a certified refurb.

In many states, including Washington, its paid for by a tax applied to electronic sales.
