Admittedly the majority of techPowerUp! readers are probably more interested in building their own gaming computers than buying them from large OEMs, but Dell has now launched its latest incarnation of the XPS gaming desktop. The XPS 630 is the first pre-built PC from any major manufacturer to support the Enthusiast System Architecture (ESA), and comes equipped with an nForce 650 chipset, two PCIe x16 slots, four HDD bays and Corsair DOMINATOR memory - the base model features an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU and a 512MB GeForce 8800 GT graphics card. Dell itself sanctions overclocking, commenting that both the CPU and memory can be pushed beyond stock speeds. The base model costs $1,299 and comes with a two year warranty, going on sale tomorrow.

darn. i bought the xps 420 in december with no upgrades.. not they have this.. o well at least i got a $200 gift card out of the deal :-/ but man.. the option for oc'in and sli..

Well, I'll be damned. A Pre-built Dell with a tweakable BIOS?

That's actually a decent deal for a prebuilt. I'm impressed. I do hope there are options for better chipsets tho.

They probably realized that all of their enthusiasts were building there own rather than buying their XPS line.

Now, all we have to do is convince them to step away from BTX. Although I do like their case's styling.

This one is a nice standard ATX motherboard, so should be nice and easy to upgrade.

Edit: well, Dell says:

Gamers won’t outgrow the XPS 630 because it’s based on a standard ATX chassis, making future upgrades easy.

Not sure what 'based on' means, could mean it is ATX, could mean it's like ATX but with one or two Dell modifications.

dell offers more for the price. only bad thing is the bad customer service, because they are from another country. had my share of the problems already but I got $25 out of it :ohwell:

man i wish they had this when i bought the xps 420. having the ability to oc is so tempting, but of course i wanted to build my own computer in the first place.

omg i wonder if i could sell my xps 420 for 1k because thats what i bought it for.

"Customers who subscribed for a pre-launch discount received an email today with details on a limited time promotional configuration. The special $1,299 configuration includes an Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q6600 processor, dual NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB graphics cards with SLI technology and 2-year limit warranty and In-Home service."

Wait a minute, NForce 600 series and ESA? I thought it was something NForce 700 came with. Very decent price.

Idk I was looking at cnet's review and it looks like the board is upside down...so the cpu is in the bottom right hand corner...at least that's what I think I saw. So It's ATX, but flipped.

i wonder if theyre G0 quads... thats almost exactly like my system... minus the water.

depending on PSU and noise, thats a dell i could reccomend.

this looks like alienware leaking into dells lineup.

Seriously, if this got paired with a 24" 1920x1200 dell screen with HDCP.... i'd buy it. the price is good as it is, and with quality peripherals its not going to be weak.

*looks at mini 2.0 w/ 22" * hells yeah!
