Dell UltraSharp UP3214Q and U2414H Monitors Start Selling in the US

Dell has now released in its home market two UltraSharp Series monitors, the 31.5-inch UP3214Q and the 23.8-inch U2414H. Previously released in Hong Kong, the UP3214Q is Dell's very own IGZO-powered offering boasting a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. In addition to the Ultra HD picture, the monitor features 176/176 degree viewing angles, 99% AdobeRGB and 100% sRGB color coverage, an 8 ms (GTG) response time, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic contrast ratio tops 2,000,000:1), 350 cd/m2 brightness, a 4-port USB 3.0 hub, and HDMI, DisplayPort and mini DisplayPort inputs.





The U2414H has 'only' a 1920 by 1080 resolution but is claimed to come with the thinnest border around - 6.05 mm. It also has an IPS panel with 178/178 degree viewing angles, an 8 ms (GTG) response time, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, a 4-port USB 3.0 hub, and DisplayPort, mini DisplayPort and dual HDMI connectivity.

The UltraSharp UP3214Q and U2414H cost $3,499.99 and $349.99, respectively. Both monitors are backed by a three-year warranty.

This would have been a killer product at 1500€, many 30" 1600p users would have upgraded in a heartbeat.

They probably have their price locked by their panel manufacturer, look at how Sharp and ASUS monitors are priced similarly.

Sharp is milking on its IGZO tech, which to be honest isn't too surprising.

Being first to the market has its perks.

Supply and demand isn't the only factor, pioneering hardware is usually a lot more expensive than the current standard. It is a lot easier to shop around for the cheapest components for a 1080p monitor, than it is for a 2160p monitor.

Bought a 24 ultra sharp Widescreen years ago, and have been LOVING it for all these years. They are SO worth the $$ they cost. 1200p , and a level of reliability that you KNOW will keep it operational for a LONG time. Skip this one though, and get the "Wide Screen" model, screw that 1080 b.s.I'm kinda surprised they removed the SD card reader option's though, they were a bit "much" , but they are Nice to have when You need 'Em.

Supply and demand isn't the only factor, pioneering hardware is usually a lot more expensive than the current standard. It is a lot easier to shop around for the cheapest components for a 1080p monitor, than it is for a 2160p monitor.

But that is pure supply and demand example. Supply of such high res panels in desktop monitor format is extremely low (only one producer).

Unfortunately the card reader on my 2405fpw 24" ultra only reads 2Gb cards max, still a fine monitor though.

Because you just don't understand how it works. Rare more luxurious things have always cost more than things meant for the average consumer and there are many more than valid reasons why it's so (and greed is not even the most paramount).

in all honesty, 1080p monitors were simillarly expensive back in 05, when they first started hitting the market. prices will come down with time, as more manufacturers start building them they command a premium, since only one manufacturer makes them. just like ANY exclusive product. just look at the geforce titan, or the intel xeons. or look at luxury cars like Lamborghinis or Ferraris. this is the ferrari of monitors at the moment.
