Thanks...though I have read that "low MBO battery" might give some strange errors like that (except the error on BIOS screen).

Are those Dell systems made that way?

I have been using Dell servers exclusively for years. I never had any problems. I have a lot of friends, who use HP, Lenovo, IBM, ASUS and some other servers, and they all have some problems with their servers. Although they are the youngest in the business, Dell makes the best servers.

An upgrade to even something 3 or 4 years old for $50 or $100 will be a MASSIVE upgrade! Granted, if you're not gaming or doing anything video intensive, then what you have will get you by.

For example, a Geforce GTX 960(2GB or 4GB) would be a great option and is not expensive. A GTX 1070 would be even better and, again, is not expensive.

If you'd like some more suggestions on what card might work best for that system, let us know.


Unless you actually need that much RAM, just go with 48GB. It'll be more that you will ever need for that system.


I would skip this in favor of a quality 2TB SATA SSD. You will not really get much of a performance boost from NVMe in that system.

There is a lot of good cards in that range if you keep your expectations realistic. Try to be a bit flexible on price. For example;

EVGA GTX1080 for $120. This one is worth it! The extra performance will be more than worth the $20. It'll also stay relevant for you longer.

1) compatibility with the T7500

Any PCIe GPU with 6pin PCIe power connector will do. That can expand to almost any GPU if you are willing to get a 6pin to 8pin PCIe power connector adapter.(This presumes you have the PSU the came with the T7500 first revision which only has the 6pin connectors. The later revisions of the T7500 PSU had an 8pin connector.)

2) if used, that hasn't been abused mining crypto.

Most cards that fit within that price range will be unlikely to have been abused in a mining rig. Even the GTX1080's on the used market now have never been used for mining as they have not been able to push hash-rates that can pay for the power used to run them for many years.

I haven't done this in a while, so my examples would be relics today. But if you can find the Dell Part number for the cards you want, and shop the Dell surplus market by just that number or even Ebay you can get some deals. These can be under the radar for gamers using the aftermarket descriptors.

Yuppers. I had an 8TB in mine before upgrading to a newer platform. It currently has a 6TB drive in it, both work perfectly.

Besides UPS (I went through 2 of them in short period. Basically crap batteries), any suggestions?

I was thinking of going to windows server 2022 but I enjoyed telnet into Ubuntu server and just installing casaOS and or doing other little things with it. May just install proxmox and learn that instead.

With Linux, I'm not as familiar with an install recovery as with Windows. I would suggest booting into the system with an Ubuntu Live-drive(you can still log into your account with a live drive) and backup all of your critical files. Then try an image recovery from there.

I recently got 2 large rack mount ups's. 1 with no batteries the other with crap batteries. Was going to try to run my own battery bank in the bottom of my cabinet instead of the smaller 9ah sla batteries.
The only windows server I have any experience with is 2016. Updates were unbearably slow. And I have no experience with promox.

Of course. Anything above 2TB must be formatted GPT(there are exceptions to this, but those are uncommon). A system's BIOS, whether Legacy or UEFI, doesn't care about the formatting of a drive, only whether it's present and provides it's parameters to boot from.

Part of MiniTools info on that page is incorrect. MBR is perfectly compatible with UEFI. 100%.

Hey does anyone know if there should be any problem trying to use a rtx 3070 in a 5810? I'm helping a friend new to computers and not local upgrade his 5810. Had him get a 685w PSU ,the rtx3070 blower style card and a 10 pin to pcie power cable. The only mess up was that I thought cable was supposed to be a 10 pin to dual 6+2 and what it really is , is a 10 pin to a 6 and 8. So I assumed the card wouldn't care that one socket only had a 6 pin in it. System doesn't post though. I just had him order an 8 pin to dual 6+2 cable and instructed him to use 1 6+2 from that cable and the 8 pin from the other cable to split the rails up. Anyone have any other input??

In the world of Dell they may have offered that with 1x8 pin card,OR 2x 6 pin cards (150W either way) and borked it so can't do what you want to. There may only be one 18A.x12V. 216W.rail there.. 10 pin might = 1- 8pin (150W) +2Grd? Look into the service manual and see what Dell intended, and the 10 pin pinout if you can find it. All Yellow wires could be one 12V. rail.
12V. in Dell is White,Yellow, then Blue which is usually where the GPU cables start. Then striped combinations of the 3 colors. But switching 12V to red in a cable (Delta fans) can give Yellow another meaning (RPM). Not likely in GPU cables but it does happen.

So I've ran bigger cards in these workstations. Just not a 30 series. And I build my own cables. The 8 pin vga connector on the power distribution board is pinned out identical to a pcie 8 pin power. So it matches up perfectly with a GPU. It has 1 18amp 12v rail The 10 pin on the board is eps. Has 1 5 pin row of 12v and 1 5 pin row of grounds. 2 of the 12v pins are 1 18amp rail and the other 3 are on another 18amp rail. I had him show me the 10 pin connector on a video call to go over the wire color/pin assignment.

No you don't. The T5810 officially supports up to 300W of graphics with the 685W PSU. A 3070 has a TDP of 220W.
