Hey Dippy, it was advice. Whether you take it or leave it is your choice. It's just that people would probably respect your opinion more if you acted more rational instead of going ape nuts about anything Apple. Just my 2 cents.

The far right very very bright "fading" is what I mean. It looks like that in real life.

It looks terrible.

Is that not proof of my "opinion" enough?

The D610 has an older LCD, and is not widescreen, it does not have this issue.

I wonder if we'll see a desktop GeForce 8600GS. It might be a nice product in between the 8600gt and the 8500gt (the later apparently blows). It could also drop price of 8500gt so that the 8400gs can hit around $30. An 8700 could be kinda cool, but an 8800gs would really rock.

Don't count ATI out yet though, if y'all remember the x1600 series sucked compared to the GeForce 76xx series, however the x1650 series made a nice comeback, so an HD 2650 could be a real winner.

It kinda does. Its not super bright (but bright enough...kinda like movie/theater mode on a lcd screen), but it doesn't strain your eyes...which i like.

dippy, nearly every single thread i've ever seen you comment in, you are always taking the defensive with apple. complaining about everything gets annoying from anybody, so tone it down and act rational even if other people are not.

somebody else said something about how ridiculous the xps prices are. they're right! when i was hunting down for a laptop, the xps's were way too overpriced. i'm pretty impressed with dell, because they beat sony, hp, and toshiba for the price point by 300-500 dollars. then of course there's apple that offers their macbook pro for 2,000+ bucks.
I do too. Somebody has to defend Apple products from the FUD of the people that are ignorant/misguided/unexperienced in terms of Macs.

If people would stop spreading FUD, we wouldn't have to defend every anti-Apple post.

No, they aren't perfect, from a hardware, software, or corporate standpoint, but not a single company is.

And to all the haters, for the last time, Macs are not overpriced for the hardware and features you receive. They are VERY comparable.

are you serious???? i just gave you proof that macs are overpriced! do me a favor and go to dell and build a inspiron 1720... then go to mac and see how much a very comparable system comes out to, i can almost guarantee that the mac will be more expensive

Yep, got it by $700. The inspiron doesn't have all of the features of the MBP, however. Whether or not those extra features are worth the extra money, is up to the buyer. Doesn't seem worth it to me, hence, I bought an iMac.

Now, do me a favor. Configure a MacPro, and try to find a comparable computer elsewhere to compare, or build one yourself with the same hardware (with substitutions where obviously necessary) and comparable software features. Don't forget to select a case of the same quality.

BULLSHIT.

Compare it yourself.

Its more expensive than the 15 AND 17" version, and has sub par SOUND, and a 7900gs vs an 8900gs. The 17" has a GT.

Now what were you saying?

NOTE: Must select pre-N card when configuring the dell. Even my ati macbook pro has N. The dell has a 2.33ghz cpu, the mbp is a 2.4.

why would u be looking at the screen at that angle?

The angle at the far right of the screen is what it looks like at ALL ANGLES.

It looks like shit too.

The dell monitor to the left is completely absent of this fading problem.
o ya nice dell monitor in the corner

Yeah, we have a few hundred at work.

your killing me smalls...

comes out to around $1,774 for a comparable system to that mac
No, to get a similar configuration to the Mac, you have to spend almost $2200, and you still don't have the software to create websites and mix and record music. Tack on at least $150 for that. You also don't get the backlit keyboard, the aluminum enclosure, or the better trackpad. Not to mention the ability to boot both Windows and OS X natively. So you're looking at a $500 difference after you factor in the software.

Also, In order to get a similar configuration, you have to upgrade both of them to 1920x1200 screens. The mac comes stock with 1680x1050 vs the Dell's 1440x900.

The Mac comes to $2899.

The Dell comes to $2163 + the extra software needed to match the Mac's features.

Alright, here's what I got 2,160 for the Dell and 2,900 for a comprable macbook (1920x1200 res). There's no better or worse, some people like their macbooks, some people don't like macs. Personally, I don't like the mac interface, but I never bothered to learn. You have to remember, when you pay for a mac, you do pay for some better hardware, like the case is so much better than any other laptop's. It all comes down to preference, it's like this: would you like to go to "x" restaurant, when you go to "y" get the same stuff in different atmosphere and pay more. That's how I look at it.

Not as far as I know, OS X is much less of a resource consumer. Where did you get that?

i really dont remember... but i think it was on TPU about a year ago

im gonna google it lol

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/software...-on-a-mac-pro-than-apples-own-os-x-232402.php

Uh..

Why would it perform differently?

Its the same hardware.............. :wtf:

But do note, the virtualization options available for os x are super cheap, and very feature rich.

Unless going from Bios->EFI really did help that much. LOL.

OS X is much more snappier than vista is though. I've run both+xp on my MBP.

When I read this thread, all I can do is laugh. Dippy, you should learn not to take things so seriously. I mean, what people use is their own opinion. However, stating that paying 700 extra dollars for the same thing is a GOOD thing doesn't make any sense at all. I'm going into the College of Engineering, and they say specifically to NOT buy a Mac just because of the lack of features and compatibility in the classrooms and with real-life applications. Those aren't MY words, those are the words of that of an entire University.

Anyways, to sum up this thread so there's no more bickering, OK Dell is coming out w/ a new overpriced XPS laptop. Then somehow it turned into a Macbook Pro vs. PC fight. So what? When I have the choice of paying for a 1,250 dollar Dell over a similar Apple that costs 2,000+, I'll choose the Dell ANY day. Especially with days now that we have the OSX86 Project, it really doesn't matter whether or not you buy an Apple computer or not to use OSX. So bing-a-batta-boom. This thread is over.

Just to let you know... many states look at Texas as it's own country. There are places there I am not allowed.
