Despite Frank Azor's Dismissal, Whispers of a 32 GB Radeon RX 9070 XTX Resurface

Recent rumors hinted at a 32 GB variant of the Radeon RX 9070 XT being in the works, which were quickly dismissed as false information by AMD's Frank Azor. However, reliable sources seem to point to the contrary, stating that a 32 GB variant of the RX 9070 XT, likely dubbed the RX 9070 XTX, is under active development indeed. The source, as pointed out by Wccftech, has a decent track record with AMD-related claims, which sure does add weight to the assertion. Unlike previous XTX-class cards from AMD, which boasted higher clock speeds and core counts, the 9070 XTX is almost certain to feature the same core count as the XT, since the latter already utilizes the full Navi 48 chip - unless, of course, there is an even higher-end chip under wraps.

The VRAM amount seems to indicate that the card will likely be positioned to appease AI enthusiasts. There is also the possibility that the rumored card will be launched under a different branding entirely, although that is not what the post at Chiphell states. Interestingly, Frank Azor did specifically mention that a 32 GB "RX 9070 XT" card is not on the horizon - he did not state that a higher-end XTX card isn't either, which sure does leave room for us to speculate. Benchlife has also chimed in on the matter, claiming that they are aware of AIB partners working on a 32 GB RDNA 4 card with the Navi 48 GPU, which in some ways, confirms the information that came out of Chiphell. The RDNA 4 cards are set to see the light of day soon enough, it seems the wait won't be much longer. However, if the 32 GB card is indeed in the pipeline, it's likely still further down the road.

If the 16GB version comes at $800, do we really care if there is going to be a 32GB version? Probably those who want to run AI applications, but what about the rest of us? Would there be any interest for a 32GB 9070XT at $1000 or more?

I wouldn't pay $1000 just to run 30B-parameter models. But if the base 9070 XT was $800 (and I was in the market for a gaming card), and the 32GB edition $1000, then yeah, I'd pony up another $200 for the extra memory for AI applications.

MSRP's appear to be meaningless this generation, once again. If 9070 XT launches at $600 MSRP then there's hope that the street price may be $800.

They mean that Frank dismissed the idea of a 32GB card.

I read that headline and though Frank Azor had been dismissed from AMD :wtf:
I didn't. How is that coming across?

The title.

"Despite Frank Azor's dismissal [...]" can sound ambiguous. Either he dismissed something (which is the case), or he was dismissed himself.

Or for $349 like intel Arc A770 16GB limited edition...
2 years later, 50% higher power consumption and $50 more than 3060 for the same performance . This was one of the worst cards released in the past two decades.

If modders can add more VRAM, imagine what AIBs could do to chase profits.

A 9070XT with 32GB for $1000 would be a steal. With two of these, you'd effectively have 64GB of VRAM and more computing power than a 5090. Not even CUDA would save Jensen’s ass.

AMD is causing people to have psychotic breaks over the pricing situation.

Truth is AMD and NV have done something they haven't done in a long time: sold out of existing inventory before launching their next series.

It's a wasteland out there if you want a a new card. Newegg brought back their daily shuffle/lottery thing to hawk absurdly overpriced NV cards at dope addicted no self control gamers and we don't even have a mining crisis to deal with.

AMD can launch into this environment and sell cards. If they're smart they'll do the fake MSRP thing like Nvidia, while their board partners jack up pricing, but I am certain more than a few people that would "never settle" for AMD/Radeon infact will right now given the complete lack of supply from NV.

They might even discover that AMD cards don't strangle puppies and eat kittens with their drivers too.

Several AMD's Radeon RX 9070 Series GPUs From XFX Listed On Amazon: Price Starts At $649 For RX 9070 & $749 For The 9070 XT
1739636256577.png

From the prices, it looks like $599 MSRP for the 9070 and $699 for the 9070 XT. Add to that the skyrocketing prices of RTX 5000 series cards and we might see something similar with RX 9070/XT cards, even with plenty of stock available.

Obviously I would love to see another HD 4800 series case, where Nvidia was rushing to return $50 to early adopters of GTX 280 and GTX 270, because the HD 4850 at $199 and HD 4870 at $299 were killers.

Because same VRAM capacity, same old GDDR6(which today price probably is lesser), same 256 bit bus. I compare manufacturer costs.

Yes, basic English. But for one, not everyone here is a native English speaker. Two, someone may just quickly and incompletely read something or read while tired. Then, misunderstandings happen.

A770 was so crappy and terrible engineered that Intel sold it at lost and it was still the worst performance/$ even compared to cards released 2 year ago. The real price would be much higher if you add profit. This does not change the fact that the 9070XT is overpriced, but if you don't know the VRAM price is probably to lowest contributor to the price for a GPU, 16GB GDDR6 cost like ~$40 or less. There are more things that make the price

AMD makes clear its MID RANGE!
Cause $550 of 2020 is now around $675. And then you need to factor in the new tariffs and increased wafer costs. No way it's going to be $550. I imagine the MSRP might be $650 and there will be a grand total of one card from each vendor at that price + AMD's lottery from their own website that isn't even available for more than half of the planet.

While that's fair, TPU conducts itself in English and proper English at that. Misunderstanding will of course happen. Thus the explanations.

Those prices would be literally DOA, why not just get the 5070 Ti at that point.

Yeah, yeah, "at least it'll be in stock" okay well when the 5070s are in stock there's no reason to buy at that point.

That qualifying statement could also read as Frank was dismissed, yet whispers remain. Advanced English!

It should read "Despite Frank Azor's Dismissal of Rumors"
