It hasn't aged well; I remember thinking how clunky and dull it was when they brought it back as an easter egg within Diablo 3.Diablo 1 has a great setting and plot but it is an absolute terrible game to play, saying this as someone that played it in ~97. I think I last played around with D1 in 2015. The complaints for me are the same: Slow character walk speeds, easy to dupe items, mouse click for every swing. It should be remade similar to D2R.
I certainly thought it was a decent game when it launched, but expectations change over time, and nostalgia doesn't do the original Diablo any favours. Even Diablo II is pretty woeful if you play the original version without the LoD expansion because the LoD expansion added so many quality of life changes that you forget how horrible the original interface and mechanics could be.
