I have the chance to pick up a 5870 Lightning for about $45, call it the nostalgia in me but i kind of want to get that as its a pretty nice historical card.

now the reason its $45 is because the system boots but the monitor has no signal. do you think it just needs a bake fix to work again or is it something that might not be as simple of a fix?

Sounds like needs to be baked
Why 560 on its last legs have been baked about 7 times :( . Would sometime just freeze. Restart either no signal or green rectangles/line (then memory errors occur)

Would first clean gpu contacts reseat card . last resort Bake

sweet thanks for the response, yeah i had a 9800GX2 that was completely dead in the water and a bake brought it back to life and it actually had no problems after that and still got about 100mhz OC out of it too :D

The card would probably need to be replace soon anyway . The baking method may not work for long .My card only seems to work for few months then problem occurs again

Unless have someone that has a flow/heating station
Probably the best to let the card cool down slowly once remove from the oven - even just open it a bit too slowly cool down ,then remove

i normally had cards making stripes or other flashy things(ex. 8800gt) that would work after bakíng.
no display sounds different to me.

i would put it on the back burner and look for one that works.

yeah im thinking the same, but when i think about my 9800GX2 that had the same thing, everything turned on, but there was no signal and no green led indicating power. after the bake, there was a signal and the green power leds were back.

yea, but the issue with that is the 5870 lightning was already rare and one that works probably wouldnt sell for less than 150 which is too much.

it is a pretty risky $40 to spend tho.

i would give him half the price.
not many peeps take the risk so he could sit on the card for longer or you take it now for half

he was asking $62 originally. i was planning on lowballing 22 bucks. its a 50/50 gamble. the bake works and im sitting on a $100-$150 card or it dosent work and i lost $40. either way you'd lose the same amt in a day in numerous different ways. at the very least, good hardware history to frame and put on the wall?

If it's based on nostalgia then by all means, but trying to make it a value proposition is asking for disappointment. Baking is a temporary fix at the best of times.

Lol yeah just irrational rationalizing ;)

Here is an equally broken one

I think I'm gonna risk the $40 and get the card..I'll make a new thread if the bake works.

I love how the 5870 cards look so good luck to you bud. Get us some benchies if it works.

Yeah I always wanted a 5870 lightning I hope the bake does the trick :)
