Not as excited for LA Noire

I wasn't excited about it at first, because I already own the flat pancake game and didn't finish it.. But after hearing it will have some free roaming I can't wait to walk around in a Rockstar Games city!.. lol Plus, I hope it sales well and they give us a GTA game.. hehe Even if it's just GTA 5.

EDIT: Holly hell, I just noticed it unlocks in 3 hours!

So, I just finished playing for about an hour maybe two.. lol I lost track... hehe I just have to say... WOW! This is amazing! I mean it's not perfect by no means, but it's a whole lot better than I thought it was going to be. I mean the small touches are amazing. The sparks flying look great. The menus work well. I even enjoyed the teleporting and it makes the fast action even better.

Now, graphic wise when it's clear it's amazing. It seems they are dropping the graphics quality during game play to keep your frame rate high. It's kind of like how Netflix quality drops when your connection slows rather than stopping and buffering. I assume it's only doing this for me with my GTX 970 which is under minimum requirements. I was afraid I wasn't going to play at all due to frame drops, but I played a straight... at least around an 1 hour and 30 minutes, and I felt no nausea at all and I've felt nausea on games that can't keep up with a 90 frame rate, like Robinson. I'm sure it's dropping some, but not enough for me to notice. I'm really impressed, because I didn't think I would be able to handle the fast past game play.

The narration is really good as well. I'm really impressed with how the menus look and work. I've played a lot of games that have horrible menus. The sound effects are great and on point with being a Doom game. It has the original doom music in the game which is cool.

Ok now with the bad stuff... The gun angle needs to be adjusted or let the user pick the angle. Rather than the Vive wand being straight up like holding a pistol you have to pretty much hold it like a magic wand where you are pointing the halo of the controller straight forward. Also, the controls took a bit of getting use too. I was clicking backward down like on a d pad to get the teleport working at first, during the tutorial, because they don't show you the dash until the next tutorial. So, I was dashing trying to get the portal to work... lol Finally I figured out to just click the center of the pad. To dash you just click the edge of the pad in the direction you want to dash. Dashing is simple, but teleporting is simple to once I figured out I could just click the center of the pad.. lol

That's it for now.. I'm off to bed. If you are on the fence about getting it then don't be, because it's well worth the $29.99. One last thing.. No Oculus Rift CV1 support... It's pretty crazy they have locked out Doom from Carmack. I'm sure someone will make it work. Probably CrossVR the creator of ReVive. I hope so, because it's awesome.

So, it looks like Doom had a bug that stopped Oculus Rift users from playing. Valve has patched the bug and it's playable now for Oculus owners!

I wish there were more graphics options, it's only using 40% of my 1080Ti to hold 90fps. I guess that's fantastic news for anyone wanting to play on lower end hardware, but I want to turn eye candy up a bit lol. To be fair it looks okay, limiting factor is the resolution of the Vive imo.

Game play is okay, my main gripe is there's no way to rotate with the controllers, you have to do it in reality. So in my case I'm constantly getting tangled up in the cables. The teleporting thing works okay, and having the ability to dash is a good middleground. I still wish there was the option to just run around normally using the pad on the controller. I really miss the glory kills, teleporting into a demon isn't as fun. I really like how intimidating some of the demons look, it's a lot more.. 'oh sh**, run around in a mad panic' now lol

I've only played for about 45 mins though, I'll see how I feel when I've spent more time on the game. For £20 it's okay, fair price for the experience you get imo. Should keep me amused until fallout

It sounds like you need to turn up SS settings. Do you have the OpenVR advanced Settings installed? I watched a ut video where someone maxed out settings and set SS to 2.0 with their 1080 Ti. Turning up SS really sharpen things up.

That's a good question, but I can't answer it. I own SS3, but I've never played it. I bought the first made for VR SS which was a wave shooter and I didn't care for it and ended up refunding it. Now, Doom VFR I've played an can say if you like Doom then buy it and well even if you haven't play a doom game... hehe

I do plan to buy SS3, but not at full price.. I didn't pay, but $4.99 for SS3 pancake version.

@infrared have you tried it with SS @ 2.0? I'm interested to know how much sharper it is with Super Sampling turned up.

My FuryX can't even handle regular SS in Serious Sam 3 with High quality. If I turned GPU quality to Ultra it becomes a puking festival.

Remember Doom VFR uses Vulkan which should run much better with your card.

lol No doubt! I thought I wasn't going to play it that much due to it being to scary, but once I started I just remember that I'm the Doomguy and just started kicking ass! lol Sadly someone reminded me that it's not the "Doomguy", but a Science guy.. lol but he still kicks ass the same. All of the Demons look so awesome. I haven't beat it yet, but once I do it unlocks the original doom maps. I can't wait to try them.

Serious sam is okay, but not as good as doom in my opinion. It's much more of a proper game, being able to run about and having an objective makes it a lot more immersive.

Edit- a couple of mins of younger Bro playing, I *think* I've got 2xSS applied correctly, could be placebo but I think it looks better with headset on.
