If the FPS range is 40-165, then what happens when FPS is well above that at say 300? What happens when FPS dips to the low 20s?
VRR is disengaged if falling under minimum VRR range.
VRR stays engaged at the maximum.

I can't remember if the Monitor Hz stays at 40Hz or if it goes back to its native max until game fps can match the monitors 40Hz again.

Reach out to LG? And hope you don't get some customer service bot lol
The sticker on my unit says May 2020! I'm going to try my luck. Probably won't hear from them until next week.

From the huge OCN thread on GK850G, no mention of LG firmware updates, so this might be a no-go unless they started shipping with newer revisions........
Thanks for this. Some people asked about it, and they just said LG is sh*t with upgrades. I've posted the examples I found (different brands), maybe that will rekindle a flame.

419.67 drivers or newer needed.
1: It's now connected to my all-AMD system.
2: I always have been using at least 430.64, IIRC, because earlier versions, have a very bad bug related to security. (<430.64) If I get my GeForce GTX 1660 Super going again, it's always been the latest drivers.

Gsync is meant to be used with Vsync, and cap to the max limit.
So above 165, doesnt happen
(Unlike normal Vsync, you dont get pre-rendered frames shitting on your render latency)
below 40, it either turns off or multiplies the value - this is why i like freesync premium pro 2 or whatever garbage name it has, that 40FPS would become 80Hz, with duplicated frames

I believe this is what they call Low Frame Compensation (LFC)

Interesting, that's my mistake. They do look like rather different panels, which is interesting as LG last suffix letters don't usually indicate an entirely different monitor.
32GK850F = Freesync and 32GK850G= Gsync.

LG's monitors start with a number, which indicates the size, followed by the lineup letter:
  • G: UltraGear lineup for gaming.
  • W: UltraWide lineup, and as the name suggests, it has their ultrawide monitors.
  • U: UltraFine lineup, their office lineup with mainly a 4k resolution.
The next letter is the year: Q (2022), P (2021), or N (2020); it's the same order as their TVs. The next set of numbers relates to the model's position in their lineup. The higher the number, the higher-end it is; 600 and 650 are the lowest-end models, while 950 is the premium model.
Some models have another letter following those sets of numbers, but not all of them have it. They usually represent a feature of the monitor:
  • F: Native FreeSync support.
  • G: Native G-SYNC support.
  • C and U: Thunderbolt support.
Lastly, there's one final letter that represents what color the body is: W for white and B for black.

Does a monitor with g sync on nvidia cards adds any benefits compared with freesync premium pro or whatever is called? What are the 'extras' if there are any?

No problem, im just wandering if that gsync chip does something that freesync cant do or any benefits of having a gsync monitor

It certainly increases the price!
Freesync Premium Pro works also with HDMI, Tom's Hardware had an article about the differences but is generic.

So basically you get less for more money¿ :)
Hardware G-sync allows for better LFC. If you're certain you'll never drop below the lower VRR range of a freesync monitor while gaming then I don't believe G-sync offers much worth considering.

G-Sync is still a thing and there are plenty of compatible gaming monitors.

If i understand correctly, Gsync has vrr support from 1Hz which i think is crucial and better LFC and Ultimate better HDR also plus latency, backlight, WCG preconditions, it needs search i never had one of these, only regular 60Hz displays, maybe it is better to take the opinion from someone that actually have used one.

Duplicating frames? Does that even sound right? The monitor inserts a repeated frame? Should be no different than playing a 30fps console game on 60Hz television.

As far gsync and vsync together. I do this on one setup and not another. I haven't had much time to play with the newer setup so it's just gsync with no vsync and I didn't notice anything wrong (gsync compat LG OLED no vsync)
The setup I do use vsync on is an older 1080p monitor with the gsync hardware that I don't think even works if vsync is off lol. But if vsync is on all the input latency that you normally get isn't there.

Yes, and I can't quite explain why, but it looks smoother than normal 30fps. I believe part of it is because the frame is in sync with the monitor refresh rate. (And AFAIK it can double or triple or quadruple the frames, whatever it takes to keep it within the VRR range).

It's not doing anything to the framerate. The refresh rate is just being put to double or maybe a multiple of the framerate. I've always thought it was just double though. Like if you got 38fps and your bottom refresh for the monitor is 40Hz then your monitor would refresh at 76Hz. No extra frames are being inserted or rendered.

Edit: it's called LFC (low frame compensation)

Did Nvidia enabled FreeSync over HDMI ( not HDMI 2.1 ) ? Or can you make it work with an display port adapter?
