Dream Monitor Ideas

I seen 27" 4k at the store and didn't like that format at all, 32" 4k is best and still comes in with better clarity than 27" 1440p. so the monitor in my original post that can do 240hz 4k or 480hz 1080p is up there on my list of dream monitors, but its just too pricey and not fully my dream just yet. if the price is right someday like $799 two years from now, I may go for one, but I doubt they ever get that cheap. I'm in no rush for a new high end monitor. I want to see how the market and innovations play out over the next year or two.

I prefer the higher pixel density combined with Oled of a 27 inch 4k monitor but 32 inch is also great as well as 42 as long as they are 4k not a fan of 1440p anymore unless it is UW or 24 inches or less.

I'm sure they will approach that price with sales in the next 2 years the OG oled monitors were priced 1000+ and have come down quite a bit. Samsung asked 1500 for mine and I paid around 880 with tax so it wouldn't surprise me.

After watching the ass fall out of the tv market I am sure once the market starts to flood with screens in the 32" oled 4k range we'll see a distinct drop, given they're already 950-1400 USD now.

And Lynx I hear you about glass, I like it screens that pop, I wonder if the optium tech 'preview' is accurate about the screen clarity or not (hence Tim from MU being the benchmark review I am waiting for)

yep waiting for his review as well, optimum tech is good, but he isn't as niche critical as Tim. Tim is the best for monitor reviews imo too.

My dream monitor would be a clear glass panel fixed to the wall behind my desk, that is in fact a 32" 4k OLED 240hz monitor. All the electronics would be in a seperate box with just a single cable going to the display, cable could even be channeled through the wall to the box.

To dream we must sleep, when we sleep we have eyes closed, so why a monitor ?

Do you overthink things usually?

I want what was suggested earlier, MSI 40" display. That seems most ideal to me, especially now my 50" older LED TV is gone as I gave it to my parents.

This is surprisingly not as far off as you might think, I saw similar demonstrations recently in a video I watched about transparent OLED tech. Interesting stuff.

The TV's at CES ?

I think maybe a nub on the side for power and wireless signal reception might not that far off either. Depending on efficiency might be able to get inductive power working too.

In seriousness though, I'm waiting for RGB subpixel OLED 360 Hz 4K monitors. Preferably 32".

I'd also settle for 1440p 360 Hz RGB OLED, since I don't like the current 360 non standard pixel OLED monitors, they don't have the pixel density to clearly render text, unlike the 4K240 ones.

4 mins ago. you are the Kangaroo hero I needed in my life

edit: I just finished the video. yeah this monitor is not for me. I probably am going to get the LG C4 42" around black friday, or one of the 360hz or 240hz 1440p's, possibly the 240hz Ultrawide... haven't decided just yet to be honest. might wait until next year, still pretty happy with the monitors I have now. Maybe LG C5 42" in May 2025.

Don’t you have to sit far from that size? Personally I feel that 16:9 ratios 32 inch is probably the biggest I’ll go, anything large I find not practical in my opinion. My eyeballs might fall out

I have a 27" 1440p personally I wouldn't want anything that isn't a bit of a improvement on PPI and bit more size. To me the 34" and 37/38" panels have the best options for what I'm after on size and pixel density though color depth is one of the bigger things I'm after in next display I want something 12-bit or better color quality and as good or higher refresh rate, brightness, and contrast. I'm not in any hurry though to upgrade my current panel.

Sony's official website says optimal viewing distance for a 4k 42" tv is 2.9 feet in length from your eyes.

my desk is a giant desk from IKEA and I can easily scoot it back to 4-5 feet once I am leaning back in my reclining chair. I am at 3 feet when sitting upright at my desk.

So it might be alright for me. Also, I tend to lean back a lot as my setup is kind of like a lazyboy recliner (but not exactly).

also, it's not just gaming for me, but also movies/shows, etc.

Are you short sighted, do you wear glasses? one really wants the monitor where things are in focus and the eye not strained.

i dont know how i missed this
if i were in the market for a monitor i'd buy this...
24" 1440p 165hz AMD Adaptive sync and the price is good too

With an OLED TV and an Odyssey G7 1440p240, I think the best monitor for me would be a 1440p 120Hz OLED with working VRR.

Look at the average FPS of games tested by TPU. With all the eye-candy turned up you're getting 60-120FPS in most of the more demanding titles. It only goes above 120FPS in esports games where visuals don't matter much, you just turn off all the graphics and minimise total click-to-photon latency.

An $800 graphics card today can't get more than 120fps in many games at 1440p. In a few years time, newer GPUs will be more powerful, but newer games will be more demanding - so this balance of a very expensive GPU being unable to achieve a true high-refresh experience in current titles will continue.

IMO, the best 60-120fps experience possible still sits at the 1440p sweet spot. Things that matter are therefore the quality of those frames and to me that means OLED black levels and motion-handling, HDR if it's implemented well in the game, VRR is mandatory for seamlessly-smooth, tear-free fluidity, and Samsung's QD OLED for a true RGB subpixel layout and rich colours without the washed-out white levels of fuzzy text that WOLED causes.

I don't think that exact display exists yet, but if it appears with a decent burn-in guarantee for under $1000 in the next few years, I'm almost certainly going to buy it. For now, I'm satisfied with my Odyssey G7 running in BFI/strobing mode at 120Hz which gives me decent black levels, decent motion response, and meets the refresh rate that my GPU is capable of delivering. I can't have VRR with that so I have to tune down graphics settings to ensure that I can maintain 120fps at all times, which is a disappointment, but an understandable compromise given the limitations of the BFI/strobing tech and my unwillingness to drop $2000 on a 4090, not that even a 4090 can always stay above 120fps at 1440p at all times, but fewer compromises would be needed.

Same, if that were in USA at the same price, I'd buy it right now. I love that form factor and increase PPI without too much overhead of a 4k screen. I think my dream monitor is still going to be the 29" 2560x1080 OLED 240hz with Gorilla Glass - that monitor will never exist though most likely. If it does, I will buy it day one. I actually found 34" 3440x1440 to be a little overwhelming, I like the intimacy of 29" ultrawide, plus the less overhead so I can actually get games to hit 200+ fps would be nice, as I prefer the extra smoothness.

No, I used to be, but I had LASIK eye surgery. I see 20/40 inside now, I see 20/10 when outside in daylight. I was basically blind before though, if I dropped my glasses, I would have to get on my hands and knees and pat around the floor until I found my glasses.

I regretted it at first, it was hell in recovery, extreme dry eye issues, etc. Over the years though my life has improved because of it, because I get outside more often cause its literally so beautiful now (20/10) :)

Sorry on late reply, I forgot about this thread and I don't recall getting a notification.

If anyone is curious, Monitors Unboxed / Hardware Unboxed describes his dream monitor in his newest video released today 39" 4k ultrawide OLED (reason he doesn't want WOLED is because all the WOLED's do curvature too strong, 800r curves, my guess is this is just an oversight on his end though, because that curve could be changed for future models)

I'm currently a 27" 4K60 display owner. What I wanna have next is a ~35" 5120x2160 monitor of at least 100 Hz. AND NOT CURVED. Decent IPS will suffice, I'm a little colour blind anyway, just need GtG and other stuff be in check so it does never smear, ghost, or whatnot.

These monitors, however, don't exist and I'm not sure if they ever will. Not like I'm unhappy with my current display anyway.

Why is your sig rig called DLSS but you have an AMD GPU? I am just curious

Just a coincidence. Full name is Demon Lord of Serial Suicide. No idea why I called it like that, I don't remember honestly.

My YOLO-PC, however, has solid reasoning behind its name.

All its parts must be fishy in some way:
• Questionable part per se (why this device of all things?);
• Questionable price;
• Questionable seller;
• Questionable aesthetics;
• Questionable way of purchase (stolen, found in the litter, etc);
• Questionable decision to buy it instead of paying bills/rent/whatever more important than a secondary PC;
• Literally anything that makes you wonder why I did that.

So, yeah, every single piece of hardware inside it fits so far.

@Beginner Macro Device well your location is Russian Wild West, so it makes since why you would operate this way. I have a theory that everyone in Russia is dreary in these ways because of the long winters, but with warmer climate - in like 40-60 years Russia will be like Ireland and you all will be the cheery people, planting gardens and shit all the time. determinism vs free will, fight!

time changes everything :love:
