I have a ECS RX480-A with 3800 tested for a week with linux worked fine.
Swapped to a Cool Master Case Centurion case using same power supply Houston we have problems. Mother Board doesn't register IDE devices at all. Manually can detect them but when it reboots same thing happens. Clear CMOS first thing. Added new CMOS battery still have problem. It detects the SATA drive fine just will not launch the CD, DVD rom so I can install windows. Anyone know what going on. This is the first SATA drive I have ever tried have 2 day for return. Anyone got any ideas. it posts and all but just does not detect the IDE devices and manually auto config it will detect the cd, dvd devices when I save and exit to reboot the drives are gone again. I have clear cmos then put jumper back on still same thing even running it with no Jumper present at all same thing. When i was playing with Linux on another drive everything was pretty good minor issue but fix able. Manual not really helping to much first new build in 2 and half years so a little rusty got any ideas at all.

Did you set the cd rom as the first boot device?

Cd rom first boot device

Cd rom first boot device
hard drive second boot device

The IDE drive hard drive and cd rom are not being detect at all. When you manually detect them it registers a Lite on and Memorex DVD burner when you f10 save and exit there not there again... When it reboots.

Could a wire be mis crossed when i hooked it to the new case.

Power Button working good and so is reset switch.

Run out of thing to try.

That's really strange.

Got a couple more stupid questions.

Are you sure you put the CMOS jumper back on in the proper position and you seated the battery properly?

Did you remember to install the standoffs in the new case?

Yes

The case is using brass standoff and standard screws.
Battery all the way in and seated down.
Tried the Cmos in open and closed and not even with the jumper attached same results except with the cmos in open of course it will not boot at all.

I had an issue like this before, not sure what fixed it but...

Make sure jumpers are set to correct master/slave position.
Keep hard drives and optical drives on different channels if possible.
You could also try setting the type of drive connected to each channel ie: CDROM manually in bios.

Don't know if this will fix it,just throwing some things into the hat.

Problem solved for now

Fixed problem.

Got it to finally start auto detecting the ide then remebered i had cd rom and dvd on a secondary ide then i swapped one cd rom to the same channel as my ide and forgot to reset jumper to slave goes to show you that you don't need to do computer work when your tired or at 3:30 am when you should be sleeping. Installing temporary os Windows 2000 now.

Thanks guys for all of your help
