350W for the whole system as per OC3D commentary above? My system peaked at around 330W. 5820K at 4.5 GHz, 32GB RAM and overclocked GTX 980. Hm. Things aren't adding up here.

A 4dBA delta means, that the RX 480 custom cooler is roughly 1.5 times as loud as Nvidia's. I wouldn't call that insignificant.
You are right, the difference is negligible. What's not negligible is the fact, that the GTX 1080 hits the same temps at roughly 1.8 times the perf while being roughly 1.5 times quieter as well.

Having said that, what's the point of comparing reference cards regarding heat and noise again? Right, there is none! (as long as they use different cooling solutions)

in reality both facts are negligible, and that was my point. also the 1080 costs how much again? it is expected to be better in every single way, and despite that, it still had problems which people just brushed off despite the price difference and it being a premium product. the same people seem to whine only about amd problems, and that is what bothers me, i dont like double standards. my post was an answer to the quoted one.

Then why not just buy a single GTX 1070? All the performance with none of the multi-GPU issues.
A guy who comments should probably read the 2 card buyers post , FOR POWER EFFICIENT FOLDING PERFORMANCE.
Ill get 2x480 or 2x 5.6tflps at 320 watts to replace 1x390 @5.5tflop.
Also last upgrade for this main rig pre Zen, that will fold for 3+ years as is while I game on Zen and this soddin 390 for a bit.

Though you should note also I have 1 480 and will have to buy another next month ,I'm spending bill money after all, godamn itch.

As for those spouting pointless, how so , if you're paying attention you would notice modern gpus clock and perform within temp and tdp parameters automatically, now what happens if you keep it below 60c , well it will maintain max clock better ,and ALL modern gpus tend to struggle doing that.

Oh n last blocks I got were for two 5870 x1 cards and 1x5850 they both folded at 1200 up from 800 GHz core for 3 years quitely and live on actually just air cooled.
Not everyone uses shit the same way clearly.

You're quite the optimist. It's need to be 33% faster in performance. That's quite some ask....

Let's not get too ahead of things and start more hype. If it overclocks past 980ti, it beats Fury X too. It's not high end.

At 1650MHz core clock it will be just behind 980Ti performance with the almost 1:1 scaling CGN GPUs have. Water cooling could achieve that me thinks.

oh please spare me the bullshit hypocrisy, where were this "critique" when the 1080 thermal throttled? and had driver issues, and all that while having a price-tag from another planet. if you expected a 230$ card to be better than a 600$ one you are truly delusional.
Are we seriously discussing a 4dBA delta? yeah.. what an earth-shuttering difference my god how are we going to solve this HUGE problem.. -_-
oh and i forgot the 1 degree delta with the 1080fe.. yeah.. soooooooo much heat... -_-
i dont mind the criticism, its the bs and the double standards that i mind.

the 1080 temps for the people with short memory..

4dB isn't a small margin of noise. As for the temps, yeah, the FE throttled back but with less noise and still runs fast with very good power.
FWIW, I wouldn't advise anyone to get an FE but if people have, fair play.
I'm not posting double standard bullshit and I don't expect a lot from a cheaper card. I'm also going to refrain from entering a shit slinging match when you seem quick to get angry.
If we get back on topic, this card is crying out for better cooling so a water block is a good idea, if for nothing than the noise (same as I'd do for a GTX1080).
I would say though that the critique is missing on the FE card because it held up to the PR regarding efficiency. What 480 did was improve on last AMD gen but given its a smaller mode than Pascal, it's efficiency is far worse.
They're facts and that's the general review consensus. If you want me to add balance I'd also say it's a great card for its cost but I'd wait for aftermarket coolers.
The Nvidia cards are hideously overpriced.

well, imo the 4db isnt that much of a difference in reality, especially when one takes into account the tier of the card, the 970 had similar db output and it sold like hot cakes.. the 980 ti was at 42 for crying out loud.. didnt see anyone complain about that..
sorry if i was a bit harsh but all this pessimism on the 480 is a bit irritating, at the very least it made nvidia wake up and bring cheaper cards in the market.
i totally agree with you on the vendor cooling solutions though, they are always better in every way.
imo the 200$ will be insane value for money even with the 1060 in play.
