Hi everyone , it's been a while since i asked help here on TPU. I have got 5 Months ago a Nvme SSD Lexar NM610PRO and a Pci e Adaptor because i'm still using my Main rig x79.
It's my main game drive and never got any issue.
I didn't got any issues until now suddely after last time i played the game Friday 19.
I tried everything . Tested the SSD speed. Changed Pci e port. Reinstalled the game 5 times.
Elden Ring is the only game that have issues and I keep getting this sluggish experience and frame drops from the Main Menu and into the game.
I even updated to the latest Gpu drivers but nothing changed.
I got no idea what else to do.
Tried even those game fixes people did since the release that i never had to do.
I'm out of ideas.

If you have to go older, 537.58 is the first to try/keep 2023-10 approx.

I was using 555.99 without any issue. I just runned out of ideas so i did upgrade to 560.70
I didn't had any issues like this Before last week. So i don't know if reverting back gpu drivers is gonna make a difference.

I tried to revert the latest update but nothing changed.

Windows updates, or other software changes perhaps?
I did try to revert the latest update but nothing changed in the game performance . I didn't install anything new.

Try RT OFF first.

Possible unstable performance fixes

  • In some PC versions, Ray Tracing may be unintentionally enabled and cause unstable performance. Please check the Ray Tracing setting in the "System" > "Graphics Settings" > "Raytracing Quality" from the title screen or in-game menu.

In the PC version, unstable framerate may be caused by third party applications that control mouse behavior. Deactivating these third party applications may improve performance.

I usually do 60 and goes down to 55 but in closed areas and main menu was 60 always. You think is the cpu that just gave up? Because in other games heavier than Elden Ring i got no issue they run good as always. This cpu the Xeon E5 1650 v2 is like a 4930k . I never got issues in any game. Seems weird now all of a sudden is making Elden Ring just have framedrops in the main menu and in game out of nowhere. It should give me the same issue in other games.

Shows 3500 MHz actually, probably wrong reading. that extra 1000 MHz makes all the difference.

Is Super Position doing the reading wrong , Now that is summer i'm running at 4.4 instead of 4.5.

600 hours.?.!. backup your save/settings, start the game from start (with all settings from scratch), perhaps.

Also frame drop fixes part of the page look at:
I already do that , the problem is the game even after installing it from scratch 5 times , even deleting everything related to it keeps running bad. LIke the fps in main menu and in game goes from 60 to 1 in millisecond is a constant framedrop and slowmo. I never got a problem like that .

i did try latency mon and i got this report with elden ring open, i don't have speed step and virtualization on. Otherwise i coulnd't have a stable oc. I tried to lower the voltage and the oc a bit more but nothing was different from this report.

CONCLUSION
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your
system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.
LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for 0:07:01 (h:mm:ss) on all processors.

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and
execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 11236,80
Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 12,924882

Highest measured interrupt to DPC latency (µs): 11234,20

REPORTED HARD PAGEFAULTS
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk
while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Process with highest pagefault count: eldenring.exe

Total number of hard pagefaults 33441
Hard pagefault count of hardest hit process: 25468
Number of processes hit: 51

Not for nothing, Elden Ring has issues across the board. It’s a great game, but microstutters and performance issues has plagued it since day 1, across a myriad of platforms.

Maybe it was a poo poo update on Windows, graphics drivers, or the game itself.

If you’re feeling saucy, DDU and reinstall your GPU drivers and reinstall the game as well.

I did reinstall the game 8 times now, i will try to ddu and reinstall the gpu drivers again but . The problem is very weird because Is the only game doing like this. I even tested Mh world that is way heavier to run that ER and runs smooth with no issues.

Man, once installed/checked it's enough, SSD is not infinite lifespan on writes everyday all that data.

Just wait a week and retry to launch it.

Well i tough it would fix the issue reinstalling it. I know they don't have infinite life :toast:

Elden ring runs primarily on one main thread, loading the core fully, and the others are shared equally. every time there are two therads running on one core they share a 25% performance increase divided by two so each gets 60% and that's something you can't control, it's completely random.

Now I'm on the first step and getting 38-48 fps with 3.2 GHz 6/12 threads enabled. and xeon V4 IPC is roughly equal to 4.0 GHz of that of V2

GPU is 50% loaded at max settings without RT 1440p. so i guess it maxes out at 4K at 40 FPS.

I don't use AA either . Like i said . I never got this issue with ER and in any other games . Now i wonder why only ER is affected like this.
I did DDu and reinstalled the gpu drivers just for kicks and nothing changed.

No Ray tracing, i use only AA as part of the max preset. Latest patch was on the 6th. Sometimes patches are braking the game. And the expansion DLC is heavier overall.

For me the game was always broken, CPU is holding back the GPU by 50%, so I'm surprised it worked fine in the first place. You have to verify whether the GPU is fully loaded and clock speeds are not throttling or something.

In my tests 12/12 vs 6/12 proved to be 10% better not because of more cores but the lack of hyperthreading that is interfering with the main game thread or process that benefits being alone on that core. And you can't guarantee that unless micromanage what program runs on what cores, that's crazy.

I never got any issue since release. Same for when the dlc got released no problems at all. It's really weird why all of a sudden does like this. Today i noticed that Elden ring compared to Lords of the Fallen is using less the SSd. Like the reading is very slow. I don't understand how in other games is all fine and only in ER the reading from the ssd is super low. I will try to formatt the ssd and see if that fixed the issue with it or not.

Update. I did formatted the SSD and nothing , The game runs very bad and as i said if i open task manager i can see the ssd usage being very low with very poor reading speed when i play ER. I got no idea :(

While looking online for solutions i stumbled upon one that i didn't consider that seems to match my problem but i can't understand why all of sudden i would have this issue.
The problem is the game or window keep searching for devices to make the game interact with but i never got this issue. When i move the pad the mouse goes away so the game does see my periferals.
Seems weird that could cause this issue.
