"Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake" Screenshots Leaked, "Shadow Drop" Reportedly Happening This Month

I am not sure about the actual devs, they do what the management demanding from them.
So they need to rush and crunch - I am pretty sure they could finish and polish all TES games nicely, Consider the wide scope they always aiming for.
More time (and money) needed for that. So I will not damn any of the devs for the famous Bethesda bugs!

Damn right :toast:

Yes, of course, not all developers, I am sure there some that also just wants the best for their game/players and are pushed too fast and too far to meet deadlines for $$$. This again, just makes Valve shine, as Gabe, doesn't care as much about the timeframe, but that what is/was eventually released, is truly a masterpiece.

People used to have same sentiments about CDPR (even though TW3 was pretty buggy in the beginning too) and then the Cyberpunk happened.

Of course, since the internet thrives on drama and picking up low-hanging fruit, everyone piled on the "evil/lazy devs" instead of realizing that maybe developing a large, complex open world game is not exactly an easy feat. And that game (or any other for that matter, including GTAs) is nowhere near the complexity of Bethesda's productions.

The other thing is that the severity of these bugs is largely overblown. People love to harp about them, but most are some skewed texture here or there or some other stuff you will never see or experience. I played Oblivion on the 360 without any mods for about 50 hours, and have never encountered anything serious.

Yes, later on the infamous levelling got me, but that's more of a bad design decision than "a bug". And even that could be chalked up to them being pioneers in the true open world genre.

Like I said above, I never even got into RPGs before Oblivion because they were overly complicated for my taste. I play games to enjoy a nice story and atmosphere, not to scratch my head trying to figure out which one of my 267 stats I should improve to get +1 hit on that mudcrab. So let's agree to disagree on this one.
No, I get your viewpoint. I just would suggest that maybe it’s not the genre for you. There are plenty of different games out there. I am just tire of the constant ruination of the things I like to suit the taste of tourists and audiences who weren’t interested in the first place. Not every game must have mass appeal. And, frankly, seeing how BG3 sold gangbusters and has a significantly more complex character system than anything Bethesda did after MW it would seem like the “streamlining” isn’t even necessary - people can adapt.

Unreal Engine 5 = :shadedshu::kookoo: so this will be the next dead Remastered game...
We obviously have no idea at the moment how it will work, but I have a feeling that this might be the Ninja Gaiden 2 Black situation where UE is essentially a visual wrapper on top of the old game still running underneath. Though considering that Gamebryo is about as stable as a crackhead on meth on the best day… yeah, not sure if it will all be smooth sailing.

still not sold on the necessity of remaking Oblivion of all things
Aside from Morrowind there's no better candidate really.

t-they turned it into a barren wasteland??
Don't take these leaked screenshots too seriously. I've seen other screenshots that look colorful.
Not interested. I am interested in 6th. Why there are no news about it?
It's in development since Starfield shipped but i dont expect we will see it until around 2028 maybe.
I dont even think the graphics look that great. the environment looks more realistic physically but the lack of color makes it bland. The armor on the archer dude looks like absolute crap. The texture looks very low resolution meanwhile the stretching of the textures is extremely noticeable and it appears very low res in regards to poly count. While tessellation appears to be applied it does nothing in certain areas like the band around the arm showing a lack of attention to detail. Now sure most likely play first person when fighting but those lack of detail points will be noticeable on NPCs, enemies etc.
These are low res screenshots. Possibly AI upscaled. I would not make any judgements on texture quality based on these.
Morrowind was better anyway. They should've went with that one.
Remakes are not mutually exclusive. Who's to say it's not planned?
Skyrim could also use a remake, even more so when it comes to Morrowind, in due time, OFC.
Skyrim most certainly does not need a remake. Certainly not for graphics.
MW was already rather dumbed down compared to Daggerfall. Quite literally the only “complicated” part of its systems is the fact that fatigue is taken into account for every action that you do and that your skills actually matter. Which is the reason for all the “why no hit mudcrab with starting dagger when specced into long blade, game bad” I have seen over the years. What the game COULD stand with is communicating its systems a bit more clearly to the players, but that’s really it. “Simplifying” things for the benefit of people who want to play RPGs without actually playing RPGs is what got Bethesda to the current point of making mid as fuck action games with stats in the first place, so how about we don’t go down that route.
And Daggerfall was dumbed down compared to Arena?
Can we stop with this elitism please? Not every game needs to be survival simulator where you have to use a physical paper map and entire spreadsheets of information to even play the game. Id say the sweetspot is somewhere between Oblivion and Skyrim. At least for me.
I guess Skyblivion team (Oblivion on Skyrim engine) will be pissed
Depends on how this official remake turns out, but i think it's a win for Skyblivion either way since it drums up interest.

No, actually, Daggerfall was a straight up upgrade over Arena in every possible way. And if pointing out the simplification of RPG systems in a series over time is “elitism” for you, well, I guess I will not stop doing that. MW absolutely doesn’t require anything of the sort that you described - it has an excellent in-game map, a very good journal system, no survival mechanics (why even bring that up?) and, as I mentioned previously, its only foible is not clearly communicating the effects of fatigue to the player. That’s it. It is not a complex game. Honestly, none of the old-school RPGs are. Some new successors are infinitely more so (looking at you, Owlcat). Genuinely, and I mean it in the most “elitist” way possible, people who failed to get into MW because it’s “complex” just suffer from a terminal case of “skill issue”. That’s it.

Personally i would welcome Morrowind remake to judge for myself. I have not tried it. Not because of complexity, but because of graphics. Some games are just too old and clunky and i cant get into them. I had the same problem with the original Deus Ex that i gave up on in the first level (i used the "Revision" community version). I just dont like the talk how supposedly every new RPG in the series is "dumbed down" and how that's always a bad thing.

Im a big Mass Effect fan and boy was i glad they got rid of the moronic inventory management from ME1. Yes ME2 stripped many RPG features. Essentially there was no inventory, but it actually made the game better. People also lamented the lack of landing on planets, but in my eyes it was better than landing in 20th copy-paste base on some backwater rock. ME3 struck the middle ground by bringing back some inventory management without making it overly cumbersome.

What some people call "dumbing down" is not always a negative thing. When done right it might get rid of some repetitive system that in a previous game just wasted players time for very little benefit or existed solely to pad the game length.

Its using UE5 which is an instant turn off.

But also the original game has extreme modding done to it, not just for visuals but also for balance, scripting bugs and so forth. Will stay away from this one.

Truth. I think it comes down to the simple principle that any systems and mechanics the game makes use of, need to be worth the effort. Good mechanics echo throughout a game, they keep reminding you of their presence and nudge to 'good/fun' gameplay.

If this is real, and they didnt ruin the game, im super excited.
The have to preserve the original soundtrack and vibe of this game. It was so immersive and special. I still play on era appropriate hardware just to immerse myself in that environment from time to time.

Think I'm feeling 2006 more, maybe it's nostalgia, maybe old age ;)
It reminds me of the "this is clear" / "this is claritin clear" commercials... The old version looks like an alive nature paradise, the new version just looks polluted. Like if my lawn is that color, it's actually dead.

Still going to buy it though -- Oblivion is one of my favorite games. If they added coop it will be so huge, dreaming though here i think.

Oh, it DOES, mate. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any need for any ENB! Trust me.

You may say ENB is optional, however, that's your opinion.

ENB, especially for an RPG like Skyrim in its current state, is ABSOLUTELY / WITH UTMOST CERTAINTY an essential part of the modding process for this specific title.

I cannot imagine playing Skyrim without ENB, like ever.

Good day! Cheers

We're ancient over here, just let us be and pick up my teeth from time to time. We call this constant nagging wisdom, or experience.
Thank you, @Vayra86, for the good laugh.

God bless you, you mad beast <3

I hope for more classic moments like this. :)

I never played Oblivion, but the screenshots look like shit in terms of changes to the overall feel of the terrain compared to the original, and it makes no sense.
Also, I am not touching shit made by the Chinese out of general principle if I can help it (I made an exception with Delta Force and am already finding it to be a bad idea for some reasons).
