OFFICIAL Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim (Discussion)

I wonder if Bethesda will do a Wii U port. lock picking mini-game or map in the controller!

No, this game was made for the PC first. It was called Oblivion. The only thing console port about it is the UI.

Yeah the UI is way to console oriented. I really wish they gave PC users a mix between Oblivion's and Skyrim's UI.

While I've pretty much gotten use to it now (a bit awkward at first) I still hope for mod to make it more PC friendly.

My dude, Pretty much mage/archer

My character is a female Dunmer by the name Kyla Inders, all my female characters are usually named this, already she's level 31 and fought a few dragons. Even made some heavy Dragon armour. Found a small Dwemer cave but with only some cave bears in it. I was heavily disappointed.
Really love this game and I'm exploring everywhere possible. My home in Whiterun has a barrel with nothing but cheese in it. Also a random end table has tons of skulls and troll skulls in it along with gems and soul gems.
Only mods I'd really want at the moment is for everyone not to have such blocky textures, 4096x4096 textures for everything and DMRA BBB from OBLIVION. Otherwise, I can't think of anything else. The dungeons/caves/etcetera are already spectacular and not even usre if I'd want anymore already.
Anyone else have subtitles on for the hell of it and see the Draugr are talking along with
using shouts
?

I didn't like Oblivion's UI either. I'm sure there will be many mods out shortly for it. For now, I just "Favorite" the things I use most.

Oblivion's UI had consolitis too. I used the mod that at least made it smaller so you could see more on the screen.

Bah ... GC still overheating after I blew the dust out.
Core gets to about 109°C and then it starts to freak (this is during the intro movie).
I'll have to pull it and clean it real good and probably regoop it.

I dont think the UI is that bad, its much more simple and effective than oblivion's UI but it would be good if you could sort your items. I used a UI mod on oblivion but it was that long ago i forget the name of it.

Favourite gets annoying but i havnt checked if you can macro items.

Wow dude I have researched and tweaked my shadows and I don't see anything that smooth and nice yet. A 4870X2 as well. can you PM me your SkyrimPrefs.ini?
You got PM ;)

Me and Velvet still runnin' on the x2 :rockout:
Card still kicks butt in all the games I own, and it RULES in power consumption. lol

I can deal with the gamepad UI, but what drives me nuts is that the cursor doesn't interact well with the choices. Sometimes it won't even choose what I clicked. They need fine tune it and add a little highlight function when you hover over items or dialogue.

Also, anyone else get an annoying bug where anything that "opens up" (Door, Display case, etc) physically flings stuff around it? I've been having to use TCL to clip my way through a door so my loot doesn't fly away and fall into the world below. I then pick the lock from the inside

After reading a lot of stuff, I have the feeling a lot of the problems are related to the Havok physics code and the way it works, not necessarily the Bethesda code.
Not sure ... just pondering.

damn, i just went crossfire today and you lot say its no good for skyrim? sad :(

edit: its working for me? i can run 8x AA 16x AF now that i have crossfire, whereas without i'd get low FPS on just 2xAA

press F, scroll wheel to adjust.
I am left handed with the mouse, so I changed all my controls  I will have to go back and check which keyboard buttons I changed around. I only left some of them as default being ESC and TAB. The rest are adjusted.

That said, dam I hope I get used to the feel of the way my character is controlled. Oblivion was so much better.

Thanks,

imo people in this thread should post some videos of their epic dragon slaying art! I'd start it off but the last dragon I killed was in a town, so not much of a challenge lol

i just use my dual wield lightning with the stun perk, and interrupt every attack they make. easy, so long as i have mana potions.

has anyone found the fort neugard library? I got the key but can't find where to use it :(

there seems to be an article from kotaku comparing skyrim and wow hehe, can't view it in the office tho :(

Does anyone know how to hot key dual weapons?
I can only use one weapon and one magic or shield.

I just ran through the whole place I couldn't find it. If you go on top of the roof there is a chest with a treasure map I didn't follow it but maybe that leads you to it.

Maybe the Clairvoyance illusion spell will lead you to it.
I use it pretty often to find the quickest way to get to an unknown place if a mountain is in the way.

If you're talking about binding to your mouse buttons, I can't tell you if this will work since I use a 360 controller, but to bind them I just highlight the spell/item and pull the trigger on which slot I want it in. I.E. left trigger on firebolt for left hand, right trigger on firebolt for right hand. Maybe the mouse buttone will work the same way.

No, I've been hearing all over the net that the game performs much better on higher-clocked duals than on quad's..
This must be true, because I'm having absolutely no performance issues on ultra at 2048x1152, yet I see other people with much better CPUs complaining about performance. I'm just running a C2D E7200 at 3.9ghz with 5gb DDR2 800. The GTX 560 Ti is the only modern part of my system

edit: This would've been an awesome desktop if I remembered to turn off the UI

Edit: I'll wait till the next patch is out, hopefully within a couple of days... then we'll see ;)

Dual or quad won't matter, what will matter is performance per clock, and since you are OCing, any decent Quad these days will match that Wolfdales clocks and get more performance per clock. But I don't see the point, I'm running this game beyond Ultra (ini tweaks) with almost every texture pack that is released right now, and my processor is only $150, and my cards only $260.

I love this game... I can't wait for bugs to be patched... My only two complaints is that you can't change keys (or I can't figure out how) and two: you can't co op or multi play this game... I've always avoided magic type rpg games and this is my first one but man it's good... i put 30+ hours on this game in 2.5 days lol

Time to start modding, there are mods that allow swapping of hotkeys. MP though, that might never happen, it's hard to do a game like this MP, unless the 2nd player is just there and has no real effect on changing the game.

well this new engine is still gamebryo i tested it earlier same commands same settings same tweaks as all the older titles, this is gamebryo all over again nothings really changed, except for better multi core support, and a few tweaks this game engine is essentially just as old as the CoD game engine lolz.

I'm sure they borrowed some from it, but to say the only change is multicore support, seems doubtful. I guess it doesn't matter either way, all I know is I am running a shit load of texture pakcs right now and the game runs great. With 3x 3870's. 4870x2, 2x 5850's, or my 6950 I could never use texture packs in the other Gamebryo games, even 1 texture pack would just cripple my game. If adding multicore support helped that much, then thats all that matters to me. In the end what I say still holds true, this game looks much better, is less buggy, and performance is much better, and thats all that matters to me.

Are you experiencing any problems with lag on respawn?

Edit:

Also, it takes a special game to have everyone on my Steam friends list say that they're playing Skyrim.

Great, now please just get rid of that crosshair and I'll have a new desktop :D

Nope. Very occasionally the game will hang for <1 second, but that's it and I hardly notice it. I haven't actually checked the FPS but that's because I haven't had reason too; it seems smooth as silk to me. Load times are pretty damn fast too.
