Using kids as a tangible market force is a shrewd but tried and tested method. Just look at sweets, or, far more sinister, McDonald's Happy Meals with toys. Junk food made fun. Obesity made normal.

Yeah, there should be restrictions on all forms of profiteering made from exploiting the wanton nature of kids and their (low-willed) parents desire to appease them.

Hi,
No study can handle the entire population
The touble area is when blood soaked violence is normalize by may mainstream sources for $$$$$$

And game ... rating aren't taken seriously by parents

VR will be a lot of more fun
When I was a teenager, I played Mortal Kombat, Half-Life and eventually, Postal 2. Now, that's blood-soaked violence! Fortnite is nothing. Yet, I didn't grow up to become a serial killer. ;)

Epic's current calamity is wrong for other reasons, imo.

I played some fortnite at its peak popularity and it was kinda questionable, a few weeks ago played a single game and i noticed the store model had changed, seemed less aggressive. Anyway, i think they always allowed refunds in cases on children going crazy, and if anything its the parents fault imo.

Still, definitely a shady practice on epic for sure.

I literally "learned" about sex from a late night viewing of Ninja Scroll while my parents slept. True story.

The air quotes around learned were on purpose and I definitely didn't become... what Ninja Scroll was portraying.

I think every generation will have its version of Mortal Kombat Moms. This is the largest "Won't someone PLEASE think of the CHILDREN" fine I've ever seen however.

Progress? Maybe??

Hmm, I wonder why they wanted to get their own storefront on iOS? Yeah, they made it about fees, but they also had no ability to apply these tactics. Not saying Apple is virtuous, but having to go through the AppStore for all purchases has to really cramp their scheme.

Also, for those that say parents need to be more involved, well, I’m a parent, and our kids don’t get access to any of this, for this very reason. It’s nearly a full time job to police all these apps and services and platforms, so the lower the value of the service, the more likely it’s just a hard pass.

Benchmark Scores Benchmarks in 2024?
But they are giving away free games! Surely that is enough compensation.

Hi every time I am hungry and smell the fries before the Golden Arches I used to get Mcdonalds. I am older now and to be honest do not travel nearly as much as before (Thanks Covid) but I totally agree with that. Disney is probably the best at it though. I saw them take Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes (If you were a kid in the 70 and 80s and read comics this was right up your wheel house) and turn it into Avengers Assemble an obviously adolescent show and now we have Spidey and his Friends. Where Ghost Spider physically reminds my Daughter of herself at 5 years old.

That's exactly why companies shouldn't use them to get money.
I'm sure you've never dealt with kids

I dont have kids but still understand this point, these gaming companies are taking advantage.

It's amazing how much misunderstanding about Controlling Interest of Epic is around the net. Tencent doesn't have any power over Epic. They don't do anything without Sweeney's approval. They are an investor. Tim Sweeney controls Epic. If you have any issue with Epic then Tim Sweeney is to blame. There is nothing going on in Epic that Sweeney doesn't know about and condone.
That's exactly the problem that most folks are upset about: Epic Games is harvesting all sorts of customer data about our computers, other programs running on our computer, etc, and then selling this customer data (or giving it to them free, who knows) to TenCent for everyone that has the Epic Games client installed on our computer and Sweeny is allowing it because TenCent is still part of their company. This is exactly why I'm never allowing that program on any computer I own and I won't allow computers running it to connect to my network either.
