Yeah, I remember seeing someone using the PWM cut off from an old 8800GTX to replace the one on, IIRC, a GTX570.

Nope, go look up the spec, the 3rd +12v is optional on the 6-pin but required on the 8-pin. Like I said.

And any PSU that uses 6+2 connectors, like your Galaxy, will have all 3 because the connector has to follow the 8-pin spec.



What I mean is that the middle +12v pin is often missing completely.

Not once have I ever seen that, ever.

It was GTX480 VRMs on a GTX580.

I've seen 8800GTX/Ultra VRMs on a GTX570 somewhere too, but that was because the VRM from the GTX570 popped.

Not once have I ever seen that, ever.

Look at almost any 4-pin molex to 6-pin PCI-E adapter, as well as most mid-low end PSUs.

Not even on the mid-low psus I've seen. If the psu you are considering is like that, it's time to consider a different one.

I never use these PSUs, I'm just stating they are out there, and the PCI-E standard states the middle pin is optional on a 6-pin and required on a 8-pin. Just because you've never seen one without the 3rd pin doesn't mean it is required by the standard, and doesn't mean connectors without it don't exist.

Some of the 2x Molex to PCIe 6-pin adapters I've seen omit the second pin, which confirms that it can be removed when trying to cut costs.
