so far hairworks (and sometimes HBAO+) is the only part of gameworks that give a big performance drop for a result that isn't better than tressFx.
But I really doubt that stuff like real subsurface scatering, and global illumination are ever gonna come without performance drop. If it's doesn't it must be faked.
But then i wonder if it's not several decade too early to not faking those effects. I doubt that current games actually got sss on every vegetation, but i think they are doing a decent job at making them look translucent.

There are no real-time high performance techniques for totally dynamic global illumination. It's all mostly made up of pre-calculated light transport data and pre-baked lighting. So it is fake no matter what.

I like gameworks, but you have to really pay for it. It seems like anything less than 1080 doesn't work. So I don't know why they put 1060 as recommended.

Well according to nvidia, they are planning to bring something as close as possible to the real deal, with lights bounce being calculated, they went as far as to say that the 970 and 980 were the first gpu to make a "good enough" render of the cornell box. (not quite close to precalculated pbr, still better than what's outhere according to them.)

Close as possible would essentially be ray-tracing . Nvidia may boast as much as they like about it but they ain't there yet. Also PBR doesn't necessarily involved the use GI or vice-versa so I don't know what they mean by that.

I've talked about PBR, because they were putting their real time VXGI against a render made by Iray (who's a path tracing PBR renderer) while the VXGI did have some color illuminating the objects and the shadows, the effect wasnt as strong as the iray render were the shadow had a clear color tint.
(Going from mental ray pre mila "work hard for a good result" to already PBR renderer"easy as it comes" had such a huge impact on me that I may tend to abuse it's use.)

But the PBR documentation is a little messy too, some website are saying that PBR is more about how light is interacting with a shader for more realistic results, other are saying that it's also better for GI...In the end all I've retained is that it' s a good thing, and you should use it unless you want to go NPR.

well, i dont know what to say, if they make requirement for amd card we need vega 56, it's kinda sucks because well.. we all know PS4, XONE, XONE X are using custom AMD based card, and we all know that ps4 pro use custom rx 480 based and xone x use custom rx 580.
