If you need to save up, move past EOL equipment such as anything running DDR4. In example, a 12400F will gain a minimum of 10% going to DDR5.

Even then, a 12400F lacks luster unless you get into overclocking it. If you'd rather ser it up and game, perhaps a 12600K would be more appealing. Also having the option to upgrade to Raptor Lake, which is a massive performance uplift from 12th gen hardware.

Or if you want to go team red, a 9700X would be a better "upgrade" over ddr4. The socket will likely carry to the next gen cpu AMD releases. AM4 covered 4 generations for example....

TLDR, if you have to save up, get as modern as you can.

So... I would probably save a little more and go for an AM5 or a new Intel procesor and Mobo, but in the mean time I spent 30 mins on learning about overclocking for the 8700k, went from 4.7 to 5.0, and from 212 fps to a more respectable 319 fps in cs2, without changing my usual settings. I also played some metro Exodus, seeing about a 30-40% increase in performance, probably just letting the 7800xt do more of its job. The i7 stays at a max of 70ish degrees, with the cooler's fans on 75% all the time, not a problem for me at least. Also, I got the memory from the anemic 2400mhz to a decent 2933mhz, seeing a difference there too. In conclusion, I will wait a little more, the old but cute i7 apparently has a little more life in it for what I usually use it. Thanks everyone for the effort, this was a wonderful topic, I am very happy being apart of such a helping and caring community.

I think that is the most sensible plan and just save up for an all around platform upgrade for when you're ready.

As @oxrufiioxo said, this is quite probably the most sensible decision. The 12400F+B760 route was a good deal if your were terminally in "upgrade now" mode. But as master Julius would say:

Nice. My old 8700K was a decent chip, 5ghz 1.365v all cores. Memory 4000mhz CL14 1,50v Samsung B-die kit. Which is really where it's at for your system. Even CL16 would be really decent performance. Perhaps keep overclocking and see if you can get memory frequency much higher and the CSGO/2 frame rates will get better. Intel 14nm responds quite well to high frequency, low latency memory configurations. You still have a little performance on the table. I'd aim for 4.8ghz Ring/Cache frequency also.
