TSMC has confirmed to Taiwan News this weekend that a fire at its Phoenix-general area, Arizona semiconductor plant was only "limited to an outside trash chute and immediately extinguished" - the chipmaker was responding to an afternoon incident from Friday (April 28). A worker took photos of black smoke rising from a section of the brand new factory, the employee then proceeded to share their snaps online via a discussion board. A local firefighting crew extinguished the blaze soon after evacuating workers from the affected area, a preliminary investigation conducted by the emergency responders found that the fire originated from a waste/refuse chute. A root cause has not yet been identified according to the newspaper's article.

The Arizona plant was not the only TSMC location to play host to an unexpected incident this week - reports from Wednesday (April 26) state that a fire broke out during the (preceding) evening/night at a company facility in North Taiwan. No injuries or casualties were reported following a response by firefighters who had the situation under control soon after 9 pm - TSMC believes that the fire started at around 19:30. The incomplete factory is situated within Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Park, and is set to bolster the company's existing advanced 3D IC package manufacturing efforts. Part of the facility will also be setup as a component testing lab. TSMC has declared that it is conducting an investigation into the incident at its Zhunan, Miaoli County location.

in five years it will read, "TSMC Arizona plant unable to produce chips due to extreme water shortage in region"

lmao. god it annoys me being smarter than six figure paid shills.

If you say that you are smarter than them, have you done something about it.

Could be sabotage. Possibly the Canadians are behind it. @mechtech @sepheronx
The Canadians say the Cubans are behind it.

That one went right over your head.
Potentially, but that's not really my fault the way you posted it.

If it was a joke, internet sucks for those.

The Canadians say the Cubans are behind it.
And the Cubans say the Argentinians were behind it....

And the Argentinians say the Saudis were behind it....

And the Saudis say the Borg were behind it....

And the Borg say the Mexicans were behind it....

And the truth is.... somebody HERE was behind it, and now you know that we know that you know that we know, hehehe :D

Construction work + lax safety standards = fire. Just look at the Notre Dame. Puff. Dust.

Don't be fooled that's not already included in their calculation. ;) They built their plant where they get the (public tax) subsidies thrown at & when "the holy land" is dried up they just move on to the next city that drowns them in subsidies. Of course the public doesn't like that, politicians will argue with "but the J O B S!" and so it goes round and round.

Will the real person behind it stand up

Almost nothing is impossible if you throw enough money at the problem, you could argue that it can make it unnecessarily expensive and inefficient on the other hand, there I would agree

Reminds me of all the food factory just catching fire at the same time in all parts of the world.

That second picture had me laughing: the "Safety is Everyone's Responsibility" banner with the fire in the background. Lol.

chyna, federal us gov't behind it

Yea Going to have to agree with this. This is what happens when you deal with the politics of tax incentives in placing a water hogging industrial corporation... in a EFFING. DESERT. Making technological material is a overall dirty process that if not done correctly will harm the environment one way or another.

I've been in that Accursed State. It does get freaking hot over there. The people who will be paying for this is of course... THE TAX PAYERS.

By the looks of it, simply smoking should be banned at work.

The possibility that it was a classic cigarete bud is probably very high.

Also you can't put out a fire with water you don't have.

So we'll see prices going up from TSMC then

And the Borg say the Mexicans were behind it....
WRONG!

The Borg only say: You will be assimilated!

It is that time of year where it starts heating up. In my area, we've already hit 90F.

As for water, this year we had one of the wettest winters I've ever seen. All local lakes are doing very well.

I still have no idea why TSMC would choose to build a factory down in Phoenix over closer to where I am (north-central AZ), where we have more water and summers don't get quite as hot.

I think TSMC do not really want to have a factory in US. While they can keep as much of production in the Island as they can, they could feel safe inside the western interest.
While lesser chip is producing outside they could feel safe less...
Chess... your turn.:pimp:
